中国の雁蕩山にSlow Coral Designが設計した〈クリフ・シリーズ（Cliff Series）〉は、「景勝地におけるビジネスモデルの再生と刷新」をテーマに掲げたプロジェクトです。

伝統的な景勝地ながら加速する若者離れを解決するため、登山ルート上の洞窟につくられたカフェ〈クリフ・コーヒー（Cliff Coffee）〉など、風景を壊さずに斬新な空間を生み出すよう設計されました。

古くから親しまれる景勝地が直面する課題

雁蕩山（がんとうざん）は、国家5A級観光地および世界地質公園として、豊かな自然資源や地質学的奇観を誇るだけでなく、深遠な文化的遺産をも有している。これらの資源は、地域文化の重要な構成要素であると同時に、国家文化遺産の重要な担い手でもある。歴史を通じて、多くの詩人、文人、学者がここに足跡を残してきた。しかし、時代の変化に伴い、伝統的な景勝地としての魅力は徐々に薄れつつあり、若者たちの関心も低下傾向にある。

かつてこの地は、伝統的な登山を楽しむ観光客を多く惹きつけていたが、若者が足を踏み入れることは稀であった。この美しい景観をいかにして活性化し、より多くの若者の関心を集めるかが、本プロジェクトの設計プロセスにおいて解決すべき核心的な課題である。

洞窟にうがつフォトジェニックな空間

将来および現在の主流となる消費者を惹きつけるため、雁蕩山の方洞から霊岩景勝地にかけての崖側の洞窟に、2つのユニークな体験型空間を設計・建設した。ここではコーヒーや軽食を楽しめるだけでなく、雄大な山々の景色を一望できる絶好のインスタ映えスポットでもある。伝統的な景勝地を刷新することで、現代のライフスタイルと自然の美しさを融合させ、より多くの人々に体験してもらいたいと考えている。

内部には広々とした展望デッキを備えており、人々がリラックスして自然を楽しむのに最適な場所となっている。観光客はここで、香り豊かなコーヒーと雁蕩山の雄大な景色を堪能することができる。

近代化の進展に伴い、多くの伝統的な観光地は観光客の減少や活気の欠如というジレンマに直面している。しかし、これらの観光地は深い歴史を秘めているだけでなく、かけがえのない社会的・文化的価値も有している。私たちは、伝統的な景勝地のもつ潜在力と魅力を十分に認識しており、一連の革新的なデザインと改修戦略を通じて、これらの景勝地に新たな活力を吹き込むことを目指している。

私たちの革新的なデザインと改修戦略により、伝統的な景勝地は独自の文化的魅力を維持できるだけでなく、現代社会において新たな活力を取り戻すことができる。

〈クリフ・コーヒー〉の創出による自然との共存

現代の若者を惹きつけ、深い体験を提供することで、雁蕩山に若々しい活力を吹き込むべく、〈クリフ・コーヒー〉を創出した。

このような自然環境に囲まれる中で、我々は常に「控えめなデザイン（weak design）」「調和を重んじるデザイン（compromise design）」という理念を貫き、雁蕩山の自然環境との調和ある共存を目指した。カフェの構造は崖とシームレスに溶け込んでおり、自然へのダメージを最小限に抑えている。ここで美しい景色と美味しい料理を楽しみながら、この美しい自然資源を守り続けられるように配慮した。

この地の地質構造は極めて独特であり、数十億年にわたる風化作用を経て、奇岩や断崖といった壮大な景観を形成している。

若年層へのアピールと新たな価値の提供

私たちは、より多くの若者を雁蕩山に呼び込み、SNSで発信してもらうだけでなく、都市開発が加速する現代において、自然の壮大さと美しさを体感してもらいたいと考えている。これは伝統的な景勝地のアップグレードや再構築にとどまらず、人間と自然の調和という理念の実践でもあり、より多くの人々に雁蕩山の新たな魅力を発見してもらうための試みである。

デザインを控えめにすることで、景勝地はその独自の文化的魅力を保ちつつ、現代社会において新たな活力を取り戻すことができる。さらに、我々は第2の要素として「若々しさ」を重視している。現代の若年層の関心を惹きつけるため、デザインにモダンでファッショナブルな要素を取り入れた。

設計プロセスにおいては、元の環境を損なわないこと、運営上のニーズを強化すること、そして観光客の体験を向上させることに十分な配慮がなされている。

Explore the unique charm of Yandang Mountain
Yandang Mountain, as a national 5A level scenic spot and world geological park, not only has abundant natural resources and geological wonders, but also has a profound cultural heritage. These resources are not only an important component of local culture, but also an important carrier of national cultural heritage. Throughout history, poets, literati, and scholars have left their footprints here. However, with the changing times, the attractiveness of traditional scenic spots is gradually weakening, and the interest of young people in these scenic spots is also decreasing.
In the past, this place attracted more tourists who enjoyed traditional mountain climbing activities, but young people rarely set foot here. How to revitalize this beautiful scenery and attract more young people’s attention is the core problem to be solved in the design process.
In order to attract future and current mainstream consumers, we have designed and built two unique experiential scene formats in the cliff side caves from Fangdong to Lingyan Scenic Area in Yandang Mountain. Not only does this place offer coffee and light meals, but it is also an excellent check-in spot overlooking the magnificent mountain scenery. By updating traditional scenic spots, we hope to combine modern lifestyles with natural beauty and attract more people to experience them.
This is an excellent place for people to relax and enjoy nature, with a spacious observation deck inside. Tourists can enjoy the rich coffee and the magnificent scenery of Yandang Mountain here.

Under the promotion of modernization, many traditional scenic spots are facing the dilemma of reduced tourists and insufficient vitality. However, these scenic spots not only carry a profound history, but also have irreplaceable social and cultural values. We are well aware of the potential and charm of traditional scenic spots. Through a series of innovative design and renovation strategies, we hope to inject new vitality into these scenic spots.

Empowering Yandang Mountain with youthful vitality
Immersed in such a natural environment, we always adhere to the concept of weak design, compromise design, and strive for harmonious coexistence with the natural environment of Yandang Mountain. The structure of the café blends seamlessly with the cliffs, reducing damage to nature. Ensure that while enjoying the beautiful scenery and delicious food here, you can also protect this beautiful natural resource.
The natural geological structure is extremely unique, and after billions of years of weathering, it has formed magnificent landscapes of strange peaks, rocks, and cliffs.
We hope to not only attract more young people to come to Yandang Mountain to check in, but also enable them to feel the magnificence and beauty of nature in the current accelerated urban development. This is not only an upgrade and reconstruction of traditional scenic spots, but also a practice of the concept of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, allowing more people to discover the new charm of Yandang Mountain.
By weakening the design, the scenic area can preserve its unique cultural charm while revitalizing itself in modern society. Secondly, we pay attention to the “youthfulness”. In order to attract the attention of contemporary groups, we have incorporated modern and fashionable elements into our design.
In the design process, full consideration is given to not damaging the original environment, strengthening operational needs, and enhancing tourist experience.
The value of traditional scenic spots lies not only in their natural landscapes and cultural heritage, but also in their ability to provide a unique cultural experience for modern society. Here, tourists can escape the hustle and bustle of the city, immerse themselves in the embrace of nature and history, and experience a lifestyle that is completely different from modern life. This experience is a rare spiritual enjoyment for modern people, especially young people.
