カースティン・トンプソン・アーキテクツがオーストラリアに手がけた、美術館を補完する”見せる収蔵庫”〈エヴァ＆マーク・ベセン・センター〉
オーストラリアのヒールズビルに位置する〈エヴァ＆マーク・ベセン・センター（Eva and Marc Besen Centre）〉は、カースティン・トンプソン・アーキテクツ（Kerstin Thompson Architects）が設計を手がけた、美術館に隣接する新たな文化・教育拠点です。
通常は裏方となる収蔵庫をガラス壁越しに公開し、「バック・オブ・ハウス」をそのまま表舞台である「フロント・オブ・ハウス」へと転換させています。

美術館横に誕生した新たな文化拠点
〈タラワラ美術館〉に隣接する〈エヴァ＆マーク・ベセン・センター〉は、多様な活動や体験に対応する文化の拠点として設計された、新たに建設された専用施設である。

収蔵と教育を融合した「フロント・オブ・ハウス」
この施設は、文化的な宝庫であると同時に、教育の拠点という二重の役割を担っている。館内には、〈タラワラ美術館〉が誇るオーストラリア絵画および彫刻の常設コレクションから厳選された300点の芸術作品が収蔵・展示されている。この空間の注目すべき特徴は、その革新的なアプローチによって際立っている。
収蔵された作品群は、安全性を確保したガラス壁越しに訪問者が鑑賞できる構造になっており、魅力的かつ有益な教育ツールとしての役割を果たしている。すなわち、本来裏方であるはずの「バック・オブ・ハウス」が、そのまま表舞台である「フロント・オブ・ハウス」として機能しているのである。

多様なプログラムを支える柔軟な空間設計
教育ワークショップや講演会、フォーラム、会議などの支援を目的として設計された内部空間は、高い柔軟性と適応性に富んでいる。当センターでは、展覧会をはじめ、パフォーマンス、クラシック音楽のコンサート、ライブアートイベントといった多様な文化イベントの開催が可能であり、最大200名の参加者を収容することができる。
こうした多彩な空間の提供は、芸術的な探求や文化的な豊かさ、そして知的な関与を促進するという〈エヴァ＆マーク・ベセン・センター〉の理念と姿勢を色濃く反映している。

Project DescriptionThe Eva and Marc Besen Centre, adjacent to the TarraWarra Museum of Art, is a new purpose-built facility designed as a cultural hub catering to a diverse range of activities and experiences.
The facility serves a dual role as both a cultural repository and an educational hub. Within its walls, a curated selection of 300 artworks drawn from the TarraWarra Museum of Art’s permanent collection of Australian painting and sculpture. This noteworthy feature distinguishes itself through an innovative approach: the artworks will be viewable to visitors through a secure glass wall, acting as an engaging and informative educational tool. Back of house is front of house.
Designed to support educational workshops, lectures, forums and conferences, the spaces are flexible and adaptable. The centre facilitates a diverse array of cultural events including exhibitions, performances, classical music concerts and live arts events, accommodating gatherings of up to 200 attendees.
