インド、カルナータカ州に建つ〈ハンピ・アート・ラボ（Hampi Art Labs）〉は、5エーカー（約20,230m²）という広大な敷地に建つ、丘のようなランドスケープに溶け込むアーティスト・イン・レジデンスです。

展示スペース、スタジオ、レジデンス、庭園、カフェで構成された、周囲に広がる丘や河川の風景から着想を得た空間は、訪れる人々やアーティストにインスピレーションを与えることを目指して設計されています。

インドを拠点に活動するサミープ・パドラ＆アソシエイツ（Sameep Padora & Associates）が設計しました。

周辺環境から着想した、丘に溶け込む建築

〈ハンピ・アート・ラボ〉は、コラボレーションと実験が可能な空間をつくることで、創造的思考を育むことを目的に建てられた。

カルナータカ州、ビジャヤナガーの5エーカーの敷地に位置する〈ハンピ・アート・ラボ〉は、トゥンガバドラ川の河川風景と、周囲の丘の穏やかな彫刻からインスピレーションを得ている。

〈ハンピ・アート・ラボ〉はギャラリーである中央の「流れの空間」に根ざしており、その両側には、レジデンスで利用できるさまざまな設備が整った丘の風景が広がっている。

この場所と周辺環境は、訪れる人々やアーティストにインスピレーションを与えることを目指している。建物はアクセシブルな屋根をもつように設計されており、訪問者は地上のランドスケープと屋上の緑地の両方にアクセスすることができ、キャンパス内のインスタレーション作品の背景となる。

ランドスケープ・デザインには、小石を使った小道や石をリサイクルしたモザイク、地域の植物を用いた植栽などを用いた。エントランスコートを歩くと、ギャラリー、カフェ、そして大きなパビリオンがあり、訪問者は中央広場へと導かれていく。

広場を抜けると、アーティストの工房や個人のスタジオスペースがある。敷地の端にはいくつかの円形劇場があり、彫刻の広場へと続き、その先にはアーティストたちの居住スペースがある。

Program

The Hampi Art Lab hopes to foster creative thinking, by creating a space where collaboration and experimentation is possible. Located on a 5 acre site in Karnataka’s city of Vijayanagar, Hampi Art Lab is inspired by the riverine landscape of the Tungabhadra, and her gentle sculpting of the surrounding hills, the project is rooted by a central ‘space of flows’; through which people access the property. On either side of this, lies a hill scape of various amenities available at the residency.

The site and its surrounding environment strive to be an inspiration to visitors and artists. The buildings are designed to have accessible roofs, so visitors have access to both, a landscape on ground, as well as a green roof, which serve as backgrounds for installation pieces across the campus.

The landscape design echoes this material approach with paths of stabilised pebble, recycled stone mosaics and local planting from the region.

Walking through the entry court, one will see the Gallery, Café, and a large pavilion-which leads visitors to the central court. Through here lie the artists’ workshops- for collective use – as well as individual studio spaces. There are also a series of amphitheatres on the edge of the property, which lead to a sculpture plaza. Beyond this, lie the residential spaces for the artists.
