「自分でいられる場所」「新しいことへのチャレンジ」「自分たちが見てきた家の概念ではなく、自分たちの家をつくりたい」――。
初回の打合せから語られたこれらの言葉が、この住まいの原点だった。
クライアントが求めていたのは、家の形や間取りそのものではなく、”どんな時間を過ごし、どんな空気が流れているか”という暮らしの質だった。ゆっくりと時間が流れ、家族が自然と集まり、なんでも話せる雰囲気。植物のある暮らしが子供の成長にもつながるのでは、というやさしい視点。そのような穏やかで柔らかな価値観が、住まいの核心となった。
敷地はゆとりがあり、南には石鎚山を望む風景が広がる。一方で季節によっては強い吹き下ろしがあり、開放性と防風性の両立が求められた。その環境に対し、外壁を二重構成とし、その「あいだ」に外と内を繋ぐ”中間領域”を考えた。
この中間領域は単なる緩衝帯ではなく、光と風を取り込み、景色を受け止め、季節の移ろいを静かに伝える場所。外部環境をやわらげつつ、自然との適切な距離感を保つ役割を果たす。家族が外に開きながらも安心して暮らせる、柔らかな境界。
屋根は棟木やそれを支える柱をもたない特徴的な架構とし、住まい全体に重く覆いかぶさらないよう軽やかな印象をつくり出した。二重外壁の包容感と呼応しながら、おおらかで安心感のある佇まいが実現した。
外部に面する天井や壁には仕上げ材を用いず、構造材を現しのままとし、素材の荒々しい表情が外部とのつながりを強め、内部空間に自然な広がりと奥行きをもたらしてくれる。
日々の暮らしの中で、光や風、素材の手触りを感じながら過ごす時間。家族が各々の場所で思い思いに過ごし、ふとした瞬間に会話が生まれる。
この家は、そんな”自分たちらしい穏やかな時間”を育むための、おおらかでやさしい器としてここに完成した。

A house where double exterior walls create a sense of space
“A place where we can be ourselves,” “taking on new challenges,” “we want to create our own home, not one based on the conventional ideas of what a house should be”—
These words, spoken from our very first meeting, formed the foundation of this home.
What the clients sought was not the shape or layout of the house itself, but the quality of life—specifically, “how they would spend their time and what kind of atmosphere would prevail.” An atmosphere where time flows slowly, the family gathers naturally, and they can talk about anything. There was also a gentle perspective that living surrounded by plants might contribute to the children’s growth. Such calm and gentle values became the core of this home.
The site is spacious, with a view of Mount Ishizuchi spreading out to the south. However, depending on the season, strong winds from the mountains can blow down, requiring a balance between openness and wind protection. In response to this environment, we designed the exterior walls with a double-layered structure and conceived an “intermediate zone” within it to connect the outside and the inside.
This intermediate zone is not merely a buffer; it is a place that captures light and wind, embraces the scenery, and quietly conveys the changing seasons. It serves to soften the external environment while maintaining an appropriate distance from nature. It is a gentle boundary that allows the family to live with peace of mind while remaining open to the outside world.
The roof features a distinctive structure without ridge beams or supporting columns, creating a light, airy impression that does not weigh heavily on the entire house. In harmony with the enveloping quality of the double-skin exterior, the design achieves a spacious and reassuring presence.
The ceilings and exterior walls are left unfinished, with the structural materials exposed. The raw texture of these materials strengthens the connection to the outside world and brings a natural sense of openness and depth to the interior spaces.
Time spent in daily life, feeling the light, the breeze, and the texture of the materials. Family members spend time as they please in their own spaces, and conversation arises in those casual moments.
This house has been completed here as a spacious and gentle vessel designed to nurture such “peaceful moments that are uniquely our own.”
