〈TERASO〉はJR博多駅筑紫口から徒歩5分の博多駅エリアに位置し、西部ガスの都市型商業施設として計画されたツインビルである。旧八仙閣本店があった敷地と隣接する複数の敷地を使用し、既存建物の解体やパーキングビル、1期ビル（TERASO-I）、2期ビル（TERASO-II）建設を含む6ステップの工事計画を進め、今回すべてのステップが完了し、延床面積28,137m²の〈TERASO〉が完成した。
1期ビル（八仙閣棟）とは建物低層部（地下1-3階）で連結しており、各階の商業施設フロアは回遊できるよう一体化されている。接続棟の3階の屋上広場はオープンエアな空間に大きなガラス屋根を架け、雨天時でも訪れる人々の憩いの空間として使われるポケットパークを設けた。ツインビル全体のデザインは「陰陽五行思想」をコンセプトとし、1期ビルは時が経つほどに味わい深くなる黒いコールテン鋼で覆い、2期ビルは対照的に透明感のある開放的な構成とした。（平野公基）
Two contrasting buildings standing side by side in a complex that enlivens and enriches the city
TERASO is located in the Hakata Station area, a five-minute walk from the Chikushi Exit of JR Hakata Station, and is a twin building planned as an urban commercial facility for Saibu Gas. Using the site where the former Hassenkaku main store was located and several adjacent areas, a six-step construction plan, including demolition of existing buildings and construction of a parking building, first-phase building (TERASO-I) and second-phase building (TERASO-II), was carried out. TERASO-II, with a total floor area of 28,137 m², is complete.
The building is connected to the first-phase building (Hassenkaku Building) at the lower level (B1-3F), and the commercial floors are integrated so that visitors can circulate among them. The rooftop plaza on the third floor of the connected building is an open-air space with a large glass roof and a pocket park that can be used as a recreational space for visitors even when it rains. The overall design of the twin buildings is based on the concept of “Yin-Yang, Five Elements,” with the first-phase building covered in black Corten steel that becomes more durable as time goes by, and the second-phase building, in contrast, is transparent and open in its composition.
