世木公園では2021年6月まで円形の釣り池が運営されていた。利用者の減少や施設の老朽化に伴い、管理棟も含めた公園全体をリニューアルする計画である。
規模としては200m²程度の平屋、機能としては公園の「管理事務所」および「公衆トイレ」、「倉庫」、加えて、雨天時や日差しの強い日でも「子供が遊べる屋根付き広場」が求められた。合わせて、夜間のセキュリティや子供の安全性への配置のため管理事務所はフェンスで囲う・道路からの管理動線も明確につくる外構計画となったため「裏を伴いつつ、効果的な開き方」を模索することにした。
本公園は、北から1850m続く西三荘ゆとり道（河川）から鶴見緑地（海）に繋がる結節点（河口）に位置し、この場所はたくさんの人が交わる汽水域となるポテンシャルが秘められていると感じた。一方で、既存の地形や植栽はある程度踏襲されるものの、公園の核であった円形の「釣り池」は大量の土砂で埋め立てられ、大きなコンテクストは失われたと言わざるを得ない状況でもあった。必然的に建築自体も核になるような魅力を帯びる必要があるのではないかと感じていた。
平面計画だけを見ると風変わりな建築に着地した。形状は3mモジュールの正三角形をベースに構成された一辺21mの正三角形。プランも正六角形・正三角形・等脚台形である。余談だが、事後確認すると「angle：魚釣りをする／triangle：三角形」であった。
西側の西三荘ゆとり道、南側の鶴見緑地、北西の交差点に対して正三角形の2辺を開きつつ、東側の管理動線の利便性を兼ね備える形となっている。
必要諸室が占める割合は少なったこともあり、全体としては広場を内包した大きな東屋のような建築となっている。
加えて、正三角形の大屋根に対して三脚のように耐力壁（六角形と等脚台形）を配置することで安定した構造となっている（倉庫と多機能トイレ部は軒と干渉しない非耐力壁の雑壁としている）。また、屋根はトラス構造とすることで部材寸法を小さくでき、ピロティの柱を減らすことにも寄与している。
主に子供たちを想定した利用方法がスタート地点ではあるが、幅広く使えるようなおおらかな空間になるように心掛けて設計したつもりである。これから、草木が芽吹いていくようにさまざまな活動が展開されていくことを期待している。

A park facility featuring a large equilateral triangular roof that serves as a hub connecting the city and green spaces
A circular fishing pond operated at Seki Park until June 2021. Due to declining visitor numbers and the aging of the facilities, there are plans to renovate the entire park, including the administration building.
The project called for a single-story building of approximately 200 m² to serve as the park’s “management office,” “public restrooms,” and “storage,” as well as a “covered playground” where children could play even during rainy weather or on days with strong sunlight. Additionally, to ensure nighttime security and child safety, the exterior design included plans to enclose the management office with a fence and clearly define access routes from the road. Consequently, we sought a design that “combines privacy with effective openness.”
This park is situated at the junction (mouth) where the Nishisō Yutori-dō (river), which stretches 1,850 meters from the north, connects to Tsurumi Ryokuchi (the sea). We felt this location had the potential to become a brackish-water area where many people would gather. On the other hand, while the existing topography and vegetation were largely retained, the circular “fishing pond”—which had been the park’s core—had been filled in with a massive amount of earth and sand, leaving us with no choice but to acknowledge that the park’s larger context had been lost. Consequently, I felt that the architecture itself would need to possess a charm that could serve as a new focal point.
Looking solely at the floor plan, the design resulted in a rather unconventional building. The shape is based on a 3-meter module, forming an equilateral triangle with a side length of 21 meters. The floor plan also consists of regular hexagons, equilateral triangles, and isosceles trapezoids. As an aside, upon later verification, the words “angle” (as in fishing) and “triangle” were indeed the inspiration.
The design opens two sides of the equilateral triangle toward the Nishisanso Yutori Road to the west, Tsurumi Green Space to the south, and the northwest intersection, while also ensuring convenient management access routes on the east side.
Since the required rooms occupy a relatively small portion of the space, the overall structure resembles a large pavilion that encloses a plaza.
Furthermore, the structure is stabilized by arranging load-bearing walls (hexagonal and isosceles trapezoidal) like the legs of a tripod against the large equilateral triangular roof (the warehouse and multi-purpose restroom sections are constructed with non-load-bearing partition walls that do not interfere with the eaves). Additionally, the truss roof structure allows for smaller member dimensions, which also helps reduce the number of pilotis columns.
While the initial concept was designed primarily for children, we aimed to create a spacious, versatile environment suitable for a wide range of uses. We look forward to seeing various activities unfold here, much as plants and trees sprout in the coming seasons.
