田畑と河川に囲まれた広い土地に建つ、和食レストランの計画。
人目を気にせず静かに過ごせる客室空間が求められたが、それぞれの空間をただ閉じるだけでは、この土地のもつ潜在的な魅力を活かすことはできない。そこで、プライバシーを確保しつつも、空間を閉じて完結させるのではなく、周辺環境が地続きに建築の中に浸透していくような建ち方を模索した。
複数の独立した小屋が、寄棟の大屋根を支える構成となっている。各小屋のRC壁は屋根の外へと伸びて、客室の占有庭を縁取るように囲いこむ。庭の植栽は壁と屋根のあいだから顔を出し、ファサードをかたちづくると同時に、風景の一部となっていく。
小屋群をつなぐのは、透過性のある屋根に覆われた半屋外の通路空間である。柔らかな自然光が差し込み、土仕上げの床には植生が根を張る。視線の先には、川沿いの原生林や敷地内に植えた樹木が借景として広がり、建築の輪郭はそれらと連なりながら、外部環境へと滲み出していく。
半屋外通路には、手動開閉式の換気棟、客室の空調空気を二次利用する排気ファン、日射熱を制御する遮熱フィルムといった環境装置が組み込まれており、夏冬の温熱負荷を緩和しつつ、中間期は開放的な外部空間として機能する。
屋根下の半屋外通路や庭付きの客室群は、内と外を対立的に分けるのではなく、光や風、植生と交わり、周縁の自然とゆるやかに繋がっていく──土地に根ざし、周囲の環境や風景との連続性を内包する建築を目指した。

A restaurant with a semi-outdoor walkway that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment
A design for a Japanese restaurant situated on a spacious plot of land surrounded by farmland and rivers.
While the client requested guest rooms where guests could relax quietly without worrying about prying eyes, simply enclosing each space would fail to capitalize on the site’s inherent charm. Therefore, we sought a design that ensures privacy without creating self-contained, closed-off spaces, but rather one where the surrounding environment seamlessly permeates the building.
The structure consists of multiple independent cabins supporting a large hipped roof. The reinforced concrete walls of each cabin extend beyond the roofline, enclosing the private gardens of the guest rooms. Plants in the gardens peek out from between the walls and the roof, shaping the façade while becoming part of the landscape.
The cluster of cabins is connected by a semi-outdoor passageway covered by a translucent roof. Soft natural light streams in, and vegetation takes root on the earthen floor. In the distance, the primeval forest along the river and the trees planted on the site spread out as a borrowed landscape; the building’s outline merges with them, gradually blending into the external environment.
The semi-outdoor passage incorporates environmental systems, including manually operated ventilation towers, exhaust fans that reuse air-conditioned air from guest rooms, and heat-shielding film to control solar heat gain. These features mitigate thermal loads in summer and winter while allowing the space to function as an open-air environment during the transitional seasons.
The semi-outdoor corridor under the roof and the guest rooms with gardens do not create a stark division between inside and outside; rather, they interact with light, wind, and vegetation, gently connecting with the surrounding nature. We aimed to create architecture rooted in the land that embodies continuity with the surrounding environment and landscape.
