タイのバンコク郊外に位置する〈ケンジントン・ラーニングスペース（The Kensington Learning space）〉は、床から壁、屋根へと連続するリボン状の連続面からなる、学習・遊び・自然という3つの要素で構成された子供向け学習施設です。

バンコクを拠点に活動するプラン・アーキテクト（Plan Architect）が設計しました。

周辺環境から独立した独自のランドスケープ

〈ケンジントン・ラーニングスペース〉は、学習・遊び・自然という3つの要素で構成された、新しいコンセプトの子供向け学習施設である。

敷地はバンコク郊外に位置しており、周辺環境は魅力的とは言えない。そのため、外部環境に依存せず、施設そのものが独自の雰囲気を創出するようなレイアウト設計が採用された。

自然光と眺望を確保する楕円形のプランニング

学習スペースは主に、教室とスポーツ複合施設という2つの機能で構成されている。多様な機能と部屋のサイズをもちながらも、すべての空間が自然光を取り込み、窓から緑の景色が見えるよう、自然の中に配置される配慮がなされている。

中央に中庭を設けた楕円形のプランは、すべての部屋が両側からの眺望を確保することを目的としている。また、機能要件に応じて建物の奥行きに変化をもたせた点も特徴である。建物前面の広い部分はスポーツ複合施設ゾーンに、狭い部分は教室に割り当てられ、背面には人通りの少ないエリアが配置されている。

建築そのものを巨大な「遊具」とするデザイン

〈ケンジントン・ラーニングスペース〉の建築形態は、子供たちの関心を引き、知識の習得を促すよう意図されている。床から屋根へと巻き上がるリボンのような連続した平面は、建築そのものを巨大な遊具へと変え、すべての子供たちが内部を探検したくなるような魅力を生み出している。

冒険心と学習意欲を育む多様な内部空間

内部には、各機能に最適化された多様な空間が広がる。

体育館の下部に位置する半屋外空間はプールとして設計した。壁から天井へと滑らかにつながる曲面と、奥に見える緑の景観が「洞窟」のような空間を形成し、子供たちの冒険心を育む。一方、体育館兼多目的ホールには無柱の広大な空間が確保されており、柔軟な機能対応と自由な遊び場を実現した。建物の狭い部分に配置された教室は、学習空間と自然を近づけ、子供たちが木々の間で学べる環境を提供している。

本プロジェクトのハイライトは、床から天井まで折りたたまれたリボン状の構造が生み出す空間である。傾斜と曲線が非日常的な知覚をもたらし、子供たちの学習能力向上を促す。下部の曲線部分は受付やカフェとつながる自由な遊び場であり、傾斜面は2階への動線となる。ここには滑り台やネットなどの遊具が2階を貫通して設置され、床から天井までをつないでいる。さらに傾斜面の下部は、子供たちのかくれんぼスペースとして設計されている。

上部の曲線部分には発表会や保護者会用の集会室が設けられ、建築形状に沿った階段状の座席が配置されている。

学びと遊びが自然の中で共存する場所

リボンの外側では、連続した形状が地面から頂部まで続き、子供たちが階段状の屋上庭園まで駆け上がれる遊びの経路となっている。このように多様な特性をもつ各エリアは、それぞれが異なる遊びのための「遊び場」として同時に定義されている。

緑豊かな雰囲気と一体化したこの遊び心あふれるデザインは、学びの場と遊びの場が自然の中に溶け込み、共存する場所となることを意図している。

Project Description*

The Kensington Learning space is a new concept of kids learning space which consists of learning space, playing space and nature space. The site location is in Bangkok suburban area with the not-so-interesting surrounding. Therefore, the layout design is set to create its own atmosphere.

The learning space is designed for two main functions which are classrooms and sport complex. With various functions and room dimensions, yet the design tends to put every function sitting in the nature with natural light and greenery view coming through the windows.

The purpose of the oval shape with the central court is to make all rooms get view on both sides. The varied room thickness is applied to the different function requirement. The wider parts in the front of building are set for sport complex zone, while the narrow parts are set for classrooms with lower traffic area on the back side.

The form is designed to draw attention from kids and to encourage acquisition of knowledge. The ribbon-like continuous plane curled up from floor to roof turns the architecture to be a huge play frame appealing all kids to explore inside.

Inside the building the various kind of space is created to suit each individual function. The semi-outdoor space under the gym is set to be the swimming pools where it smoothly links the surface from wall to ceiling with the greenery view at the end, creating the cave-like space and help building up adventurous feeling for kids. A huge column-free space is design for the gym or multi-purpose hall suitable for flexible functions and free-style playing space for kids. Classroom at the narrow parts of building brings the nature close to learning space letting all kids learn among the trees. The highlight space of this building is where the ribbon is folded from floor to ceiling creating the uncommon perception for kids, and the slope and curve shape helps boosting the kids learning skill. The lower curve part is a free play space linking with the reception and coffee shop, while the slope plane is added to link with the second floor. There is play object like slider and the net piercing through the second floor and linking from ground to ceiling. Moreover, under the slope plane is design to be a hide and seek space for kids. For the upper curve part, the assembly hall is prepared for kid’s performance and parents meeting where the seating step follows the architectural form. Outside of ribbon, the continuous shape links from ground to the top creating playing path for kids to run to the step roof garden. With various characters of space, each is defined to be a play space for different kind of play at the same time.

The intention of this playful and juicy space design along with the greenery atmosphere is to blend and become a place where learning space and playing space is sitting together among the nature.
