敷地は那覇市の細い路地が多い住宅街にある。前面道路は突き当りに小学校の裏門があり、人の通りは少なくはない。隣地は住宅と水路に面している。水路は築年数のある建物も多いエリアで生活排水が放流されているため、決して観賞できるものではない。この土地を親族から譲り受けた施主に、4人家族の住宅設計を依頼された。
住宅に対する施主の要望は特に難しいものではなかったが、周辺環境との関係性を捉えることで格段に居住性が上がるであろうと考え、駐車スペースと必要諸室の面積の確保からL字型の建物配置とし、人の通りや周囲の変化を加味し、極力外部に開口部を設けないコートハウスとすることで解決を図った。大小2カ所の中庭からは十分な通風・採光を確保しつつ、囲った壁により視線や生活感も感じさせない。サービスコートは目隠ししつつ、換気ができるのはもちろんのこと、家事動線の一部として利用できる位置とした。
ファサードデザインはL字型で道路面に対し小さく感じる建物配置になることから、要望の駐車場に屋根を設けることで間口方向に大きさを感じるように計画をした。門型に計画したコンクリートの壁と天井が、力強さを感じるファサードとなった。
近隣の小学校は県内でも有名な吹奏楽部がある。時折聞こえてくる演奏の音は心地よい。子供たちが近い将来通うであろう小学校に近いこの建物は、大人はもちろん、子供たちにとっても自慢できる建物になってくれることを望む。（鹿島祐司）
Housing with gates and L-shaped building for enhanced livability
The site is located in a residential area with many narrow alleys in Naha City. There is a back gate of the elementary school at the end of the front road, so many people are passing by. The neighboring land faces a house and a waterway. There are many old buildings in the area, and the waterway is not a place to admire because of the discharge of domestic wastewater. We were asked to design a house for four on land given to us by this relative.
The client’s request for the house was not particularly difficult. I thought that the house’s livability would be greatly improved by taking into account the relationship with the surrounding environment and deciding on an L-shaped building layout to secure parking space and necessary room areas. To secure the parking space and necessary rooms, the building was arranged in an L-shape. Considering the traffic and changes in the surroundings, we tried to solve the problem by creating a courthouse with no openings to the outside. Two large and one small courtyard provide ample ventilation and lighting, while the enclosing walls keep out sight and odors. The service court is blindfolded and can be used as a part of the housekeeping line and ventilation.
The façade design is L-shaped, and the building is placed so that it looks small in relation to the road. Therefore, we planned to give the impression of size in the frontage direction by adding a roof to the requested parking lot. In addition, the gate-shaped concrete walls and ceiling give the facade a sense of strength.
The neighboring elementary school has a famous brass band in the prefecture. The sound of the band’s performance that can be heard from time to time is pleasant. This house is located near the elementary school that the children will attend in the near future. I hope that this house will become a building that adults and children alike can be proud of in the future. (Yuji Kashima)
