〈BEB5土浦〉は、愛着のある自転車とともに泊まれるサイクリングホテルである。
土浦駅に直結した好立地と、雄大な自然を感じさせる霞ヶ浦、緑豊かな筑波山、城下町の歴史を感じさせる街を自転車で巡る旅は魅力である。そこで、旅の相棒となる自転車と滞在をともに楽しめる空間を目指して計画を行った。
パブリックスペースは、大小さまざまな大きさの道具箱を積み重ね空間を構成し、積まれた箱には、滞在や旅を豊かにする装備や用具、道具といった「ギア」を散りばめている。また、合板、波板、木セメント板など、本来下地となるマテリアルを積極的に仕上げとして採用し、ガレージのような雰囲気を持った、気軽に集まれる空間としてつくりあげている。
ゲストは、それらに触発され、集い、語らい、特別な時間を過ごすのである。客室は、自転車を持ち込めるcycle room、さらに、ビジネスユーザーにも魅力のhobby roomを新たにデザインしている。自転車との旅をきっかけに、土浦という街の魅力が再発見され、新たな旅と街の関係が生まれることを期待している。（佐々木達郎）
Hotels that create a relationship between bicycles, overnight stays, travel and the city
“BEB5 TSUCHIURA” is a cycling hotel where you can stay with your beloved bicycle.
The hotel is conveniently located directly connected to Tsuchiura Station, and the magnificent nature of Kasumigaura, the lush greenery of Mount Tsukuba, and the history of the castle town make a trip by bicycle an attractive experience. Therefore, we planned the project to create a space where people can enjoy their stay together with their bicycles, which are their travel companions.
The public space is composed of stacked toolboxes of various sizes, and the stacked boxes are scattered with ‘gear,’ such as equipment, tools, and utensils that enrich the stay and journey. The space has a garage-like atmosphere and is designed as a space for casual gatherings, actively employing plywood, corrugated board, wood-cement board, and other materials that would normally serve as the base material as finishes.
These materials inspire guests to gather, talk and spend special time together. The rooms are newly designed with a cycle room where guests can bring their bicycles and a hobby room that is also attractive to business users. We hope that traveling with bicycles will lead to a rediscovery of the charms of Tsuchiura and the creation of a new relationship between the city and travel. (Tatsuro Sasaki)
