眼下に海を見渡すことができる高台に敷地はある。
建主が所望されたのは、この環境を活かした、退職後ゆっくりと趣味の時間を過ごせる空間であった。
敷地の周辺には背の高い樹々が自生していることや湿気対策の観点から、1階フロアレベルは通常より高く設定している。畳の上に寝転がり建具をすべて引き込むと、アイレベルが枝葉に近付いたこともあり、まるで樹木の中に浮遊しているような不思議な感覚を覚える。
一方2階にはご主人の趣味を堪能できるスペースとして、プレイルームを計画した。
1万冊の本やCDが収納可能な書庫とつながる読書デッキには可動式のガラリ戸を設置し、半屋外空間とすることで最もこの環境を肌で感じられる特異な場所とした。
竣工後は、読書はもとより太平洋に沈む夕陽を眺めながら飲み物を楽しむなど、恵まれた環境を堪能していただいている。（上森雅明、上森こくとう）
A house on a hill with a great view with a sense of floating
The site is on a hill with commanding ocean views just below.
The client’s request was for a space taking advantage of this location that would allow him to spend quiet time pursuing his hobbies after retirement.
Because the site is surrounded by naturally growing tall trees and concerns over humidity, the first-story floor elevation was raised one meter above normal.
When lying on the tatami mats with all of the sliding doors tucked away, eye level is close to the branches and leaves, creating a sense of floating amidst the trees.
On the second floor, a playroom was designed as a space where the owner could pursue his hobbies of music, movies, and reading.
Moreover, the reading deck, which connects to a library where over 10,000 books and CDs can be stored, was outfitted with movable wooden slat doors to create a semi-outdoor space where the surroundings can be experienced up close.
After the completion of construction, the owner is making the most of the rich environment not only for reading but also for enjoying drinks while watching the sun set into the Pacific Ocean. (Masaaki Uemori, Kokutou Uemori)
