今作のコンセプトは大きく3つに分けられる。
・「8個の光庭」「3つのトップライト」「4つのハイサイドライト」で、豊かな内部空間を実現。
・ファサードは、シンプルかつ大胆なデザイン、建築の個性を演出。
・綿密かつ繊細なディテールで、流れる空気の純度を操作。
クライアントと土地探しから協働し、土地を決めて建築を建てる順番ではなく、希望の建築が建つ土地を探した。購入した土地は、前面道路が敷地の北西側で幅が約6.5m、道路斜線規制は緩い条件だが、北西側に小学校が位置し児童の行き来なども多いため、建築内部のプライバシーを守りつつ、光が溢れる豊かな住環境の設計を求められた。クライアントは、デザインに深く興味のある方で、線の少ない繊細なディテールでミニマルなデザインを希望していた。構造体は、計画当初はRCを希望していた。予算の都合で在来木造になったが、いわゆる「木造感」を極力消して、端正な佇まいの建築を求められた。
「構造」に関しては、2層吹き抜けと3層吹き抜けがズレながら重なっているダイナミックな空間構成を現実にするために、在来木造を基準に必要箇所に鉄骨梁を使用することで成立させた。「光を導く開口部」は、線の少ない繊細なディテールを実現するために、サッシ枠をすべてスチールの折り曲げとし、袖壁や垂れ壁を排除することで室内に光と影の陰影をデザインした。「8つの光庭」は、敷地のポテンシャルを最大限に引き出す意図で敷地内に散在させると共に、隣接する内部空間に必要な光量を導くように配慮した。「木造感」は、壁の厚みに着目し、要所要所で「W壁」を採用すること、その「W壁」に開口部をデザインし枠に奥行き感をつくり出すことで、「木造感」を消すことに成功している。「3つのトップライト」は機能上必要な要所にデザインすることで、各個室は隣地側の開口部が少ないプライバシーの守られた空間である。（保坂裕信）
A residence blurring the boundaries between spaces with scattered light gardens and picture windows
The concept of this work can be divided into three main parts.
1) The “8 light gardens,” “3 top lights,” and “4 high sidelights” create a rich interior space.
2) The facade is simple yet bold, creating a unique architectural character.
3) The airflow is manipulated with meticulous and delicate detailing.
We worked with the client from the land search stage, looking for a site where the desired architecture could be built rather than deciding on a site and constructing the building in that order. The lot purchased had a 6.5-meter wide front road on the northwest side of the property, and although the road-slope restrictions were loose, an elementary school was located on the northwest side of the lot, and children would be coming and going, so the client requested a design that would protect privacy inside the building while also providing a rich living environment filled with light. The client is deeply interested in design and wants a minimalist design with few lines and delicate details. For the structure, the client wished to RC at the beginning of the project. Due to budget constraints, conventional wood construction was chosen, but the client wanted a building with a neat appearance, eliminating the so-called “wooden feel” as much as possible.
In order to realize a dynamic spatial structure with a two-story atrium and a three-story atrium overlapping each other, steel beams were used in necessary places based on conventional wood construction. For the “light-guiding openings,” all sash frames are bent steel to realize delicate details with few lines, and light and shadow shadows are designed into the interior by eliminating the sleeve walls and hanging walls. The “eight light gardens” are scattered throughout the site to maximize the potential of the site and direct the necessary amount of light into the adjacent interior spaces. The “wooden feel” was successfully eliminated by focusing on the thickness of the walls, adopting “W-walls” in critical places, and designing openings in the “W-walls” to create a sense of depth in the frame. The “three top lights” are designed in critical locations where they are functionally necessary, and each private room has few openings to the neighboring land, creating a space where privacy is protected.
