静岡県浜松市は比較的温暖で、敷地も広めなことが多いため、伸び伸びと日本らしい建築をつくりやすく、「日本らしさ」について考え続けてきた。
「間」とは複数のものを「壁」で区切らず「関係性」をもたせることであり、それが日本らしさの大きな要素と考え、天井高を抑えつつ天井いっぱいのサッシで庭や外部と繋げ、引き戸の出入り口の上を「欄間」とすることで閉まっていても天井に繋がりをもたせた。
そのうえで天井は「竿縁」で支え、美しい杉赤材の木目にさらに陰影を与えることで、時間や季節の移り変わりを感じ続けられるようにしている。ただ古い日本建築における竿縁天井とは異質なものを目指している。床や壁と違い、天井のみは物で覆われることもなく、このように繋げることで内外どこまでも伸びて繋げてゆくような、そんな優しい広がりを住まいに与えることができる。
また広い敷地の中に施主の趣味である温室ハウスを求められたため、コストを抑えつつシンプルな木造とポリカでデザインした。（長谷守保）
A one-story house with a board and batten ceiling that seamlessly connects the inside and outside
Hamamatsu City in Shizuoka Prefecture is relatively warm and the sites are often spacious, making it easy to create Japanese-style architecture in a relaxed manner.
The ceiling height is kept low, but the ceiling-filling sashes connect to the garden and the outside, and a “Ranma” above the sliding doorway creates a connection to the ceiling even when the door is closed.
The ceiling is supported by a “Saobuchi,” which adds shading to the beautiful grain of the red cedar wood, allowing the viewer to continue to feel the changes of time and seasons. The ceiling is intended to differ from the old Japanese “Saobuchi” ceilings. Unlike floors and walls, ceilings are not covered with objects, and by connecting them in this way, we can give the house a gentle expanse that seems to extend and connect both inside and outside.
The client wanted a greenhouse for his hobby on a large site, so we designed it with simple wood and polycarbonate while keeping costs down. (Moriyasu Hase)
