陸前高田市は震災後、ピーカンナッツの木を植樹し、森をつくり、果実を活かした6次産業化プロジェクトに取り組んでいる。中心市街地嵩上げエリアの終端に位置する本施設はその拠点となり、ナッツとチョコレート菓子の加工工場、販売店舗、キッチンスタジオ、多目的スペースから構成される。
陸前高田にはもともと山から海へ繋がる「まちの骨格」があったが、 嵩上げ後の街のグリッドに対し、高田松原でも有名な広田湾の海岸線は南東に振れた方角にある。南北軸と東西軸に、この海への軸を重ね合わせることで、店舗・多目的スペースを領域的な広がりをもつ多方向に開かれた五角形平面とした。
かつてこの地で活躍した気仙大工が得意とした扇垂木を手掛かりとして、 天井は県産材のアカマツ合板に何本もの角材を放射状に並べていくことで、扇形状に広がる木質の勾配天井が全体を包み込むような居場所を考えた。内部はキッチンスタジオを中心として店舗・多目的スペースがワンルームで繋がっていて、軒下空間に沿いながら動線が緩やかに連続し、人々がのびのびと回遊できる空間となっている。日常的には工場の見学スペースとなるステージの段々状の床は、外部にそのまま延びてテラスとなり、将来的には眼下に広がるピーカンナッツの森を一望できる重要な場所となる。
扇形の屋根が、人々の賑わいと多様な活動を包み込み、陸前高田の街にとって、産業と人を育むランドマークとなることを、強く願っている。（高池葉子）
A reconstruction facility that revitalizes the axis to the sea and nurtures the city's industry and people
After the earthquake, Rikuzentakata City planted pecan nut trees, created a forest, and is working on a 6th industrialization project utilizing the fruit. This facility, located at the end of a raised area in the city center, will serve as the base of the project and will consist of a processing plant for nuts and chocolate confections, a sales store, a kitchen studio, and a multipurpose space.
Rikuzentakata originally had a “town framework” that connected the mountains to the sea. However, the coastline of Hirota Bay, famous for Takata Matsubara, swings to the southeast about the city grid after the rising. The stores and multipurpose spaces were made into a multi-directional pentagonal plan with an expansive area overlapping the north-south axis and the east-west axis with the axis to the sea.
Taking a cue from the fan rafters that were once a specialty of the Kesen carpenters who worked in the area, the ceiling is made of red pine plywood made from the prefecture’s timber and lined up in a radial pattern with many square timbers, creating a sloping wooden ceiling that spreads out in a fan shape to envelop the entire space. Inside, the kitchen studio is the center of a one-room retail and multipurpose space, with a continuous flow line along the eaves, creating a space where people can circulate freely. The terraced floor of the stage, which serves as a space for daily factory tours, extends directly outside to become a terrace, which will become an important place for overlooking the pecan nut forest below.
We hope the fan-shaped roof will encompass people’s bustle and diverse activities and become a landmark for Rikuzentakata, nurturing industry and people. (Yoko Takaike)
