本計画の対象敷地内には、1948年竣工の伝統構法の建物とその後に増築された在来工法の建物があり、本設計は、それらを一体として宿泊施設に改装することが要件であった。同じ木造でも地震力に対する挙動が異なる2棟を一体のものとして使うために、両者の中心を貫く筒状の壁を計画した。この南北軸の壁が耐力壁となり、伝統構法と在来工法の部材同士を接続させることで、2棟の構造形式を一体化した。

The site covered by this plan contains a building constructed using traditional methods in 1948 and a later addition built using conventional methods. The design requirement was to renovate these structures into a unified lodging facility. To use these two buildings, which exhibit different seismic behaviors despite both being wooden structures, as a unified whole, a cylindrical wall was planned to run through their centers. This north-south axis wall functions as a load-bearing wall. By connecting the structural members of the traditional construction methods, the structural forms of the two buildings were unified.
