東京と広島の2拠点でモデル業とヘアスタイリストを営む夫婦が広島にヘアサロンを開業するプロジェクト。
お互いが離れて暮らす中、一緒に過ごせるのはわずかな時間、家ではない店舗にも東京と広島を繋ぐ生活が空間に投影させることができないか考えた。
物件は広島市内の並木通りに面した小さな雑居ビルの5階。通りからも目立たないうえに、エレベーターを降りた共用空間も狭くなっている。当初は、2人がもつポテンシャルから考えると少し物足りなくも感じた。そこで、アプローチまではビルの設に寄り添いながら店舗の情報はあえてシャットアウトし、扉を開いた瞬間に2人が織りなす世界観が、訪れた人に一瞬で伝わる空間をつくることができないか考えた。
カットスペース4台とシャンプースペース2台を13坪で取れる最大数確保し、エントランスドアの先に大きなレセプションカウンターを配置し浮遊させた。この場を東京から帰って来た際に奥様がポップアップストアなど色々なことに挑戦できるよう「yuqi テーブル」と名付けた。また狭い空間に椅子やカウンターなどボリュームのあるものを詰め込んだことから、クロークはアクリルでつくり、その存在を透明化させ軽くみせるように試みた。
原状回復でスケルトンになった躯体に、H鋼を模して木で組んだH型木フレームを考案し、H型の窪み部分に電気配線やコンセント・照明機器などインフラを内包させながら柱や梁として組み上げ、空間内に巡らせた。
「yuqi テーブル」のカウンターはこのフレームに支えられ、ご主人のカットスペースでまで繋がり梁フレームからミラーが吊り下げられ、柱には面台やコンセントを付随させた。フレーム内をまるで血液のようにインフラが循環することで、住む場所も職種も異なる2人が夫婦として、この場で血が通うようにつながりを感じながら働いてくれたらと思う。
エントランスドアを開いた瞬間に飛び込んでくる風景は、離れた場所で暮らす夫婦が繋がる特別な時間。
東京と広島を夫婦が往来する中、働く空間をヘアーサロンの機能を埋め込みハブとしてつくることで2人が織りなすライフスタイルは独自の文化となり、広島でさまざまな形で派生し広がっていってくれたら、街が面白くなるのではないかと考える。

This project involves a married couple—who work as models and hairstylists in both Tokyo and Hiroshima—opening a hair salon in Hiroshima.
Since they live apart and have limited time to spend together, they wondered whether they could project their lifestyle—which bridges Tokyo and Hiroshima—into the space of their salon, rather than just their home.
The space is located on the fifth floor of a small mixed-use building facing Namiki-dori in Hiroshima City. Not only is it inconspicuous from the street, but the common area just off the elevator is also quite cramped. At first, given the couple’s potential, the space felt a bit underwhelming. So, we considered whether we could create a space where the building’s existing structure would guide visitors up to the entrance—deliberately shielding the salon’s presence—and then, the moment the door opens, instantly convey the world they’ve crafted to every visitor.
We secured the maximum possible number of stations—four cutting stations and two shampoo stations—within the 13 tsubo space. We positioned a large reception counter just beyond the entrance door, making it appear to float. We named this area the “yuqi Table” so that the owner’s wife could use it to try her hand at various projects, such as pop-up stores, when she returns from Tokyo. Additionally, since we packed the compact space with bulky items like chairs and counters, we built the coat check area out of acrylic to make it transparent and lighter.
For the building shell, which we stripped back to its bare structure during restoration, we designed an H-shaped wooden frame modeled after H-beams. We assembled this frame to serve as columns and beams, incorporating infrastructure such as electrical wiring, outlets, and lighting fixtures into the recesses of the H-shape, and ran it throughout the space.
The “yuqi Table” counter is supported by this frame, extending all the way to the husband’s haircutting area; a mirror is suspended from the beam frame, and the columns are fitted with vanity units and electrical outlets. With the infrastructure circulating within the frame like blood, I hope the couple—who live in different places and have different professions—will work here while feeling connected, as if this space were alive with their shared vitality.
The scene that greets you the moment you open the entrance door represents a special moment of connection for a couple living apart.
As the couple commutes between Tokyo and Hiroshima, creating a workspace that serves as a hub with built-in hair salon functions allows their interwoven lifestyle to become a unique culture. I believe that if this culture were to branch out and spread in various forms throughout Hiroshima, it would make the city more vibrant.
