石川県金沢市の北部に計画した町中華屋さんの新築店舗。
かつて一帯が蓮根畑であった敷地周辺は、現在はもっぱら閑静な宅地と畑のエリア。そこには、おしゃべりな建物よりも、足りないものを補う静的な存在が相応しいと思った。庭に石を置いて馴染むように、畑である敷地や町に対して据えるようなあり方を目指した。
そして、敷地近辺が地元である店主にとってのもう1つの家のようにした。仕込み、開店から片付け、地元で、友人や知人が来て出迎えて、店にいる時間はとても長い。落ち着くスケール感や素材、仕上げや照明のトーンを丁寧に整えていった。

A Chinese restaurant nestled in the town and countryside
A new restaurant designed for a neighborhood Chinese eatery in the northern part of Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
The site, which was once surrounded by lotus root fields, is now primarily a quiet residential and agricultural area. Rather than a building that draws attention, a quiet presence that complements what is missing would be more appropriate here. Just as stones are placed in a garden to blend in, I aimed for a design that would sit naturally within the agricultural landscape and the town.
We also designed it to feel like a second home for the owner, who is a local. From prep work and opening to closing, the owner spends a great deal of time at the restaurant, welcoming friends and neighbors. We carefully curated the scale, materials, finishes, and lighting tones to create a sense of calm.
