古い採石場の水上も使って一新する新たな公園

〈ミラノ中央公園（Centroparco Milano）〉は、ミラノの旧採石場を、水上に浮かぶ「フローティング・フォレスト」を備えたレクリエーション・オアシスに変身させるプロジェクトです。

湖の縁と水上に木製の遊歩道が設置され、湖の縁にはレストラン、水上にはスパとレンタルボート乗り場が計画されています。また、レンタルボートに乗ることで、公的なイベントやピクニックにも対応した、湖の中心に浮かぶ「フローティング・フォレスト」にアクセスすることができます。

デンマークのコペンハーゲンを拠点とし、「都市と海の関係を改善する」というビジョンを掲げる海洋建築スタジオ MASTが開発しました。

旧採石場の水上も含めて計画する新たな中央公園

MASTはミラノのセグレート自治体からの依頼を受け、旧採石場を新しい中央公園に生まれ変わらせ、 ミラノ市民が自然の中に身を置くことができる新たな目的地を提供する。

幅1km、深さ60mの採石場は、何年も活動を停止しており、工場跡や生い茂った植物に囲まれた独特の景観を残している。MASTの提案は、湖の外周にいくつかの建物を配置し、その間を公共の歩道で結び、湖の中央に浮かぶ島々をつくるというものである。

水上に浮かぶ、スパとボート乗り場と森

木製の遊歩道に沿って、スパ、レストラン、レンタルボート乗り場などの建物が配置されている。

スパとレンタルボート乗り場は、フローティング基礎の上への設置を予定しており、湖へのアクセスを容易にしつつ、地下水位や降雨量によって最大2mも変化する水位に対応する。また、レンタルボート乗り場からは電動ボートに乗り、湖の中心に浮かぶ「フローティング・フォレスト」を散策することができる。

パブリックとプライベートなイベントに対応する島々

最も大きな島の中心には円形劇場があり、パフォーマンスや公的なイベントを開催できる場所となっている。

また、湖底に係留された小さな島々は、限られた範囲内で漂うことができ、ピクニックといったプライベートなイベントに適した場所となっている。そして、湖の縁に建つ高級レストランからは、島々のパノラマビューが楽しめる。

建物はプレファブリケーションで作成された木製の門型フレームで構成されており、外装にはすべて地元産の木材を使用することを予定している。この外装は時間とともに色あせ、自然になじんでいくことだろう。

MASTの共同設立者であるMarshall Blecherは、「このプロジェクトはイタリアで初となる、ユニークな自然環境へのアクセスを可能にする革新的な開発である。」と、この開発におけるパイオニアとしての側面を強調する。

MASTは現在、セグラーテ自治体とパートナーシップを結び、プロジェクトの実現に向けて取り組んでいる。

‘MAST’ TRANSFORMS MILANESE QUARRY INTO A RECREATIONAL OASIS WITH A FLOATING FOREST

MAST was engaged by the Municipality of Segrate to transform the former sand quarry into a new central park, connecting the disparate surrounding neighbourhoods and offering a new destination for the residents of Milan to retreat into nature,

The 1km wide, 60m deep sand quarry has been inactive for years, leaving behind a unique landscape encircled by in- dustrial remnants and overgrown vegetation. MAST’s proposal envisions a series of buildings along the lake’s perimeter, linked by a public walkway and a cluster of islands floating at the centre of the lake

The buildings, which were envisaged as small nodes along the branching wooden walkway, include a spa, a restaurant and a boat rental station. The spa and boat rental station will be built on floating foundations providing access to the crystal clear lake water despite the fluctuating water levels, which can vary by up to 2 meters depending on groundwater levels and rainfall.

The boat rental station will offer low-power electric boats for visitors to navigate the lake and discover the floating forests at its centre. The largest of these islands includes an elevated ampitheatre at its centre offering a unique location for per- formances and public events. the smaller islands, which are moored to the lake bottom but allowed to drift within a limited radius, provide a unique place for picnics and private events. A fine dining restaurant perched on the rim of the lake with a panoramic view over the islands.

The buildings will be pre-fabricated using timber portal frames and will be clad entirely in locally sourced timber which will be left untreated to fade over time and settle into the natural surroundings

MAST co-founder Marshall Blecher highlights the pioneering aspect of the development, stating, “The project represents the first of its kind in Italy, an innovative development that unlocks access to the unique natural setting.”

MAST is currently working in partnership with the Municipality of Segrate toward realising the project.
