1500坪という広大な森の中にある、地産地消のレストランである。本プロジェクトでは、この場所に来て行う活動を「地消」と捉え、その由来「地産」を想起させる器としての建築を考えた。
「地産」を想起させる建築として、森の中の窪んだ低いレベルに埋め込むようにプレートを挿入した。来訪者のアイレベルを下げることで、植物が萌芽する場であり、木々の根という生命の誕生の場である大地に自然と視線がいくようにしている。訪れるたびに自然の変化を感じさせ、来訪者に「地産」を想起させる。
また「地消」の場として、森と建築のコントラストを上げて建築がもつ強さを出し、人々が集まり、賑わいをもつ広場のような空間をつくることを考えた。そこで森という有機的で複雑化したものの中において、建築としてのプレートは人工的で単純化したものとした。それは正方形という強い形式をもった平面で、フラットな床で化粧をせず、装飾性のない単一の床仕上げで（基礎コンクリートをそのまま床仕上げとする）、目地も見切りもない、方向性もスケールも消失させた分節のない床で表現している。
大らかな空間をもつ「地産地消」の建築は、結婚式場となったり、地域の人々が展示やコンサートなどイベントのできるギャラリーホールになったり、それらの活動が混じり合って使われたり、計画時の意図を超えて多目的に活用されていて、今では新しい「地消」を育んでいる。
積雪がある地域であり、市街地では「雁木造（がんぎづくり）」と呼ばれる雪除けの屋根が商店街に続いている。雁木が多数の商店をつなげるように、本計画でも直売所やギャラリーなど各プログラムを接続する役割として雁木を採用した。今後の増築、拡張の新しいプログラムや形態を許容し、雁木でつなげることで、混沌の中にも秩序をもった有機的な建築が継承される。そしてこの建築は、自然と共に成長を続けていく。（細海拓也）
A restaurant in the forest where you can experience local production for local consumption on the floor surrounded by trees
Isolated within a seemingly endless stretch of flat, idyllic countryside, a small but dense forest emerges into view. Occupying 4500 square meters, the ancient copse has been preserved and nurtured in its rural setting. Nestled within this unique environment, the project acts as a small museum. It consists of a market selling locally farmed produce and goods, a restaurant serving dishes using only locally grown ingredients (based on the “Chisan-Chisho” concept of local production for local consumption), and an event space hosting exhibitions and concerts for the community.
Gently sloping terrain and naturally dispersed trees, dappled sunlight, and rustling leaves provide visitors with a comforting and dreamlike backdrop. The building is orientated to appear as if it is submerged in the forest to help visitors detach from their every-day lives and experience the forest from the inside. Visitors can enjoy the sight of the roots emerging beneath their feet and leaves flourishing overhead. We considered the architectural program as Chisho, the act of consuming local produce, and have therefore designed the architecture as a platform to remind visitors of its origin, Chisan.
The site is located in an area that is subject to heavy snowfall in winter. In response, the vernacular downtown shopping streets are covered with elongated roofs, called “Gangi-Dukuri,” which disperse the heavy snow. The formal concept, therefore, derives from the notion of an extended roof unifying several shops in the street. The same roof links the respective spaces: the market, kitchen, and event space. The Gangi roof can expand to accommodate elements that may be added in the future, creating harmony between old and new. The project will retain a sense of ordered chaos; the architecture will grow organically as it is passed on to future generations. (Takuya Hosokai)
