街を歩く目線から見るとき、家はその構えによって、巨大な壁のように見えたり、木々の連なりに見えたり、深い影を落とす軒先に見えたり、実にさまざまな様子をもたらす。この住宅は、周辺から巨大な壁に見えてしまう家のように、自己完結してしまいがちな「家」と街をどのようにつなぐのかを考えた住宅である。
＜もとの地形＞
大きな病院が隣接した住宅街に建つ家族2人の住処。計画敷地周辺は古くは緩やかな見晴らしのよい丘であったが、隣接する大病院のボリューム感、病院の計画のためにアウトスケールに深く大きく掘り込まれてしまった地形、そして入隅の曲がり角に住宅が建て込んでいることから閉塞感が否めなかった。このような既存の周辺環境であっても遠くの風景まで見通せるような抜けのよさがあり緑に溢れた住まいをつくるために、既存の地面に土を盛り木々を植えることで、緑の溢れる原っぱのような状態に戻し、古くからある緩やかな高低差のある地形に戻した。
＜逆L型ピロティ＞
この計画では、そうしてできた斜面を延長するような形で逆L型の架構ボリュームを配置し、街に対しては軒下の空間が対峙するような構えとした。また、この逆L型架構を大小2つ並べ、その隙間が垂直のアクセス動線と眺望を望む水平スリット窓を抱える構成とした。このことによって、庭と家と遠景が直接触れ合うような近さになった。2つの逆L架構にはそれぞれ床スラブがぶら下がるかたちで取り付くことで内部の空間となり、そして、スラブが延長し大きな庇となることで、内と外の空間をつなげ、庇下のピロティ空間が周辺の街に対する中間領域になる。この中間領域は1階だけでなく2階と3階にもあり、特に3階は大型建具で開放することで、むしろ内部が大きなピロティ空間となる。箱型ではない逆L架構の連なりがもたらすピロティによるヴォイドは、家と街の間のバッファーとなることで、建て込む住宅街の閉塞感を和らげているだろう。
＜緑を介してつながる＞
この家は3方向に開いたバルコニーを契機として、家と近隣の街が緩やかに、段階的につながっている。
まず、大きく開くことのできるサッシによってリビングとバルコニーがつながる。コの字型の3方向バルコニーにはプランターや生活のさまざまなものが置かれ、近隣の住宅の木々やエクステリアと親和する。また、境界際の植栽が並木道となることで、近隣と街をつなぐフィルターとして機能する。この並木道は近隣へのささやかなお裾分けともいえるものである。（吉村昭範）

From the perspective of a walker in the city, a house can look like a huge wall, a row of trees, or the eaves casting deep shadows, depending on its posture. Like a house that looks like a huge wall from the surrounding area, this house is a house that considers how to connect the city with the house, which tends to be self-contained.
This is a residence for two families in a residential area adjacent to a large hospital. The site used to be a gentle hill with a good view. Still, the volume of the adjoining large hospital, the topography that had been dug deep and wideout of scale for the hospital project, and the fact that the houses were standing at the corner of the hill gave the site an obstructed feeling. To create a dwelling full of greenery with a clear view of the distant landscape, we covered the existing ground with soil even in such an existing environment. Trees were planted to restore it to the state of a field full of greenery and to return it to the topography with a gentle difference in elevation that has existed for a long time.
In this project, the inverted L-shaped structure volume is placed to extend the slope created in this way, and the space under the eaves confronts the town. In addition, two large and two small, inverted L-shaped structures are placed side by side, and the gaps between them hold the vertical access lines and the horizontal slit windows for the view. A floor slab hangs from each of the two inverted L-shaped structures, creating an interior space, and the slab is extended to form a large eave, connecting the interior and exterior spaces. The pilotis space under the eaves becomes an intermediate area to the surrounding city. The pilotis space under the eaves becomes a middle area to the surrounding city. This intermediate area is not only on the first floor but also on the second and third floors. Especially on the third floor, the interior becomes an ample pilotis space by opening up the large fittings. The void by the pilotis, which is brought about by a series of inverted L-frames that are not box-shaped, will become a buffer between the house and the city and soften the stagnation in the built-up residential area.
In this house, the balconies open in three directions, creating a gradual and gradual connection between the house and the neighboring town.
First, the living room is connected to the balcony by a sash that can be opened wide. The U-shaped three-way balcony is furnished with planters and various daily life items and is in harmony with the trees and exteriors of the neighboring houses. In addition, the plantings along the boundary create a tree-lined path that functions as a filter between the neighborhood and the city.
