時間の流れかたは、その環境によって変化していく。
何かに熱中している時間は短く感じるし、無為に過ぎゆく時間を待つのは長く感じるもの。
行為と環境が結びつく場が建築なのだとすれば、設計でコントロールできる時の流れもあるのではないだろうか。
この住宅を設計しながら強く意識していたのは、それぞれの場を過ごすときの時間感覚に、どう寄り添うことができるか、ということだった。
都内にしては比較的ゆとりのある敷地環境で、まずは大きめの中庭的空間をつくることが求められた。それによって、あまり近隣を意識しないで過ごせるように。
それから、すべてが大きなワンルームなのではなく、それぞれの場所が、ある程度独立していること。
そのため、特に1階まわりはそれぞれに必要十分なスペースを取りながら、室内動線にあえて距離（奥行）を取った。そのうえで、比較的ゆったりとしたスペースを確保した外部（中庭・テラス）を通じて視覚的な一体感をもてるように配慮している。それぞれの居場所はその用途に応じて寸法の微調整を行っていくことで、コージーなスケールをもたせ、それが繋がり・抜けていくための要素を外部空間と動線に委ねている。
いただいた要望の中で印象的だったのは2階に水廻りを設け、洗濯が終わるまでのんびりと過ごせるスペースがほしいということだった。その時間を有意義に過ごすためのスペースをつくることは、この住宅で大切な軸になるだろうと思った。1階が住空間の中では比較的パブリックな用途だとすれば、2階のラウンジ的なスペースは、読書をし、子供と遊び、ときには昼寝をし…という行為を受けとめる場であってほしい。そして、それに面した個室やテラスは曖昧な延長領域となるように。場合によっては連続する浴室空間までが子供の遊び場となってもいい。これによって、それ以外の個室が必要十分な大きさであっても、生活の行為を受けとめる器としての「余白」が生まれると考えた。
人の生活を受けとめる居場所をつくる要素は、決して面積の広さだけではない。光の分布や素材感、モノとモノが交わるときのディテール、包み込むスペースの空間ボリューム…。ここには、その1つひとつを工事中まで含めて、あらためて検証しながら歩んでいった軌跡が刻まれている。（廣部剛司）
A house that considers where to stay and how to spend
The flow of time changes depending on the environment.
Time spent engrossed in something feels short, while waiting for time to pass in idleness feels long.
If architecture is the place where action and environment are connected, there must be a flow of time controlled by design.
While designing this house, I was very conscious of how I could accompany the sense of time when spending time in each place.
The site environment is relatively spacious for a city, and the first thing I wanted to do was create a large courtyard-like space. This would allow us to spend time without being too conscious of the neighborhood.
Also, rather than all being one large room, each space had to be independent to some extent.
For this reason, we deliberately kept a distance (depth) between the interior lines of flow, especially around the first floor, while keeping enough space for each. In addition, a sense of visual unity is created through the relatively spacious exterior (courtyard and terrace). By fine-tuning the dimensions of each place according to its use, a cozy scale is made, and the elements that connect and flow through them are left to the external spaces and flow lines.
Among the requests we received, the one that impressed us the most was to have the water area on the second floor and a space where people can relax until the laundry is done. If the first floor is a relatively public space, the lounge-like space on the second floor should be a place where people can read, play with their children, take a nap, and so on. I want the lounge space on the second floor to be where people can read, play with their children, and sometimes take a nap. The private rooms and terrace facing it should be vague extensions of the space. In some cases, even the continuous bathroom space can become a playground for children. In this way, even if the other private rooms are of sufficient size, a “margin” will be created as a vessel to receive daily life activities.
The elements that create a place that can receive people’s lives are not limited to the size of the area. The distribution of light, the texture of materials, the details of the intersection of objects, the volume of space that encompasses… Here, each of these elements, including those under construction, is inscribed in the project’s trajectory as it was verified again and again.
