世界一の登山客数を誇る高尾山。〈Mt.TAKAO BASE CAMP〉は、その高尾山の麓にある登山者のためのゲストハウス、カフェバー。高尾山の自然を1日中楽しみたいとき、登山やトレイルランのきっかけがほしいとき、山行を終えてホッとしたいときなどに立ち寄ってもらいたい施設である。
1階はカフェと洗面・シャワーブース、2階は宿泊室で構成しているが、どちらも平面の1 / 4をコンコースと呼ばれる空間が占めている。これは通路として人々が行き交いながら、イベントや展示、集合場所などにも利用できるよう計画し、甲州街道から裏手を流れる案内川（あんないがわ）を超えて山へ繋がる空間としている。
カフェは、スタッフとゲストのコミュニケーションを期待して中央にキッチン、カウンターを配置。川側にはテラス席も設け、ゆったりとした時間を過ごしてもらえるようテーブル間隔も広めに計画した。
寝具はすべて2段ベッドだが、この建物のために製作した間仕切りやカーテンなどでプライバシーを確保しつつ、窮屈でない広さとしている。宿泊室は10人ドミトリー、4人ドミトリー×4、水回り付きのファミリールーム×2とバリエーションをもたせ、1人からグループまで幅広く対応できるようにしている。
この施設は文字どおり高尾山のベースキャンプでありながら、高尾山から富士山を経由し、大阪市箕面（みのお）まで続く東海自然歩道の出発点・帰着点として、また多くの人がここを足掛かりに登山をはじめトレイルランニング、サイクリングなど、山に関わっていくベースキャンプになっていってもらいたいと考えている。（唐崎 圭）
Guest house facility aiming at the starting point related to the mountains
Mt. Takao boasts the largest number of climbers in the world. “Mt. Takao Base Camp” is a guesthouse and cafe bar for climbers at the foot of Mt. Takao. It is a facility for people to stop by when they want to enjoy the nature of Mt. Takao all day long, when they want an opportunity to climb a mountain or do a trail run, or when they want to relieve themselves after a mountain trip.
The first floor consists of a café and wash/shower booths, and the second floor consists of lodging rooms, both of which have a concourse that occupies a quarter of the floor space. The concourse is planned to be used as a passageway for people to come and go, as well as for events, exhibitions, and meeting places, and is connected to the mountain by the Annai River that runs behind the building from Koshu Kaido.
The café has a kitchen and counter in the center in anticipation of communication between staff and guests. Terrace seating is also provided on the riverside, and the table spacing was planned to be wide enough for people to spend a relaxing time.
The bedding is all bunk beds, but they were made for this building. Partitions and curtains ensure privacy, but the space is not cramped. There are four 10-person dorm rooms, four 4-person dorm rooms, and two family rooms with water closets to accommodate a wide range of people from one person to a group.
This facility is a base camp for Mt. Takao. I hope that it will also serve as a starting and ending point for the Tokai Nature Trail, which runs from Mt. Takao to Minoh in Osaka City via Mt. I also hope that this facility will become a base camp for many people to get involved in mountain climbing, trail running, cycling, and other activities. (Kei Karasaki)
