〈HUG GARDEN ほしのさと Kids〉は、福祉施設ほしのさとに併設された定員19人の小規模な企業主導型事業所内保育所である。
素朴で単純な切妻屋根の木造1階建てとし、屋根には石州瓦を採用している。
この素朴な園舎を、庭をはさんで対面するデイサービスから観る景色づくりとも捉え、庭を囲む介護施設の利用者の心に馴染む風景づくりとなることを意図した。
園舎は南北に長い長方形の建物を3個に分け、45°程度傾けながらジグザグに配置することで保育室、遊戯室は南に面し、どこにいても明るい園舎となった。また各ボリュームの隙間の三角の空間は保育室専用のテラスや、デイサービスに向けて開く半屋外空間となり、多様な居場所を生み出している。
保育室は庭に全面開放するのではなく、各保育室には遊び場としたくなるような出窓をデイサービスの軒下テラスに向けて配置したり、建物間の移動は園舎東側の軒下の外廊下とした。園児が動けばデイサービスからチラリと見えたり、園児がデイサービスを出窓から見たりと、適度な距離感の中で、お互いの気配での交流を促している。（髙橋 勝）
A nursery center where the zigzag arrangement creates a variety of places to live
“HUG GARDEN HOSHINOSATO Kids” is a small-scale, enterprise-led in-house nursery with a capacity of 19 children, attached to the welfare facility Hoshinosato.
It is a one-story wooden building with a simple and rustic gable roof, with Ishu tiles used for the roof.
The simple, rustic building of the nursery is seen as a view from the day service across the garden. It is intended to create a familiar landscape for the users of the care facility surrounding the garden.
The garden is rectangular with a long north-south axis, divided into three parts and arranged in a zigzag pattern at a 45° angle. The nursery and playrooms face south, creating a brightly lit garden wherever they are. The triangular space between the volumes is used as a terrace dedicated to the nursery and as a semi-outdoor space open to the day service, creating a variety of places to stay.
Instead of the nursery rooms being fully open to the garden, each nursery room has a bay window facing the terrace under the eaves of the day service, which makes it an inviting place to play. The movement between buildings is through an external corridor under the eaves on the east side of the building so that the children can catch a glimpse of the day service as they move, and the children can see the day service from the bay window. The distance between the two encourages interaction in the presence of each other. (Masaru Takahashi)
