小さな建築であっても、いやむしろ小さな建築であるからこそ都市の文脈におけるあり方を表明することが、充実した都市空間をつくりだしていくと信じている。
三重県伊賀市の中心部に5坪ほどの店舗を計画した。
店内には忍者や伝統工芸の組紐など、この地方にちなんだモチーフでデザインされたお土産物が並ぶ。
この店舗の向かいには、坂倉準三設計による〈旧伊賀市庁舎〉が建っている。
役所機能は移転し、建物は今後図書館などの複合施設として活用される予定であるが、数年間空き家状態が続いている。
全国的に解体される流れにある近代の名建築を現代に生かすことができれば、ここは他のどこにもない価値をもった場所になる。
そういう場所のオリジナリティに目を向けて、場所を慈しむ人が増えることを願っている。
場所を意識させる仕掛けとして、店内正面に大きな鏡を設置した。
商品の衣服を合わせる姿見としての役割と同時に、外の風景の広がりを店内に取り込んでいる。
内部に足を踏み入れた人は、静けさの中で鏡に溢れる風景と対峙することによって外に居るときよりも鮮明にこの場所特有の空気を感じることだろう。
それは車窓からの眺めが、実際の景色よりも記憶に残りやすいのと似ている。
店舗の内装は商品の和風なテイストからケヤキを採用した。
壁はケヤキの突板貼り、家具はケヤキの突板合板とし木口を見せることで格式張らないラフな雰囲気を表した。 天井回りは狭い空間に光が回りやすいようにシルバー塗装している。
またお店の中央には組紐の作業台である高台が鎮座する。
組紐創業の地に眠っていたものを譲り受け、ガラスの天板を載せてディスプレイ台に転用した。
またファサードのガラス建具はこの地方の空き家にあったものを加工して蘇らせた。
この地で長く使われたものを活用することによって、訪れる人にここにしかない場所性を感じてもらえればと思う。
この場所が良い方向へ変わっていくことに期待を込めて、変わりゆく様子を静かに見守る「建築の構え方」について考え提案している。（武保 学）
Souvenir store that makes people feel and be aware of the value of the place
We believe that even a small building, or rather, a small building that expresses a way of being in the urban context, will create a fulfilling urban space.
We planned a store of about 18m² in the center of Iga City, Mie Prefecture.
Inside the store are souvenirs designed with motifs associated with the region, such as ninja and the traditional craft of Kumi-himo (braided cord).
Across the street from the store stands the “Old Iga City Hall” designed by Junzo Sakakura.
The city office functions have been relocated and the building will be used as a library and other complex facilities in the future, but the building has been vacant for several years.
If the famous modern building, which is being demolished nationwide, can be brought back to life in the modern age, it will be a place with a value that cannot be found anywhere else.
We hope that more and more people will look at the originality of such places and cherish them.
A large mirror was placed in the front of the store as a device to make people aware of the location.
The mirror serves not only as a mirror to match the clothes with the products but also to bring in the expanse of the outside scenery into the store.
Visitors who step into the store will be confronted with the scenery in the mirror in the quietness of the store and will feel the atmosphere of this place more vividly than when they are outside.
This is similar to how the view from a car window is more memorable than the actual scenery.
The interior of the store is made of zelkova wood, which reflects the Japanese taste in the products.
The walls are covered with zelkova veneer, and the furniture is made of zelkova veneer plywood to show the woodcut surface, creating a rough, unpretentious atmosphere. The ceiling is painted silver so that light can easily circulate in the narrow space.
In the center of the store, there is a high stand for working on braided cords.
I took over the workbench that was no longer used in the birthplace of braids, placed a glass top plate on it, and converted it to a display stand.
By utilizing items that have been used for a long time in this area, we hope that visitors will feel a sense of place that is unique to this place.
With the hope that this place will change for the better, we are considering and proposing a “way of architectural stance” that quietly observes the changing situation. (Manabu Takeho)
