かき氷は日本において昔から愛されている夏の風物詩である。近年、食材や氷の産地や削り方などにこだわった高級なかき氷が季節を問わず人気を博しており、本計画ではそうしたプレミアムなかき氷を提供する場として、和の趣を残しつつも現代性を感じさせる洗練された空間が求められた。
四角い氷の塊を、かき氷職人が専用の機械を使って回転させ、削り、かたちを整え、美しいかき氷として仕上げていく。そのプロセスを客が席から見て楽しむことができるよう、舞台としての大テーブルを空間の中心に据えた。氷削り機の回転軸を中心としてフロアに複数の円を描き、その円を補助線に天井、床、家具、照明などの形状や配置を決めてゆく。そのようにすることで、かき氷職人が氷を削っている場所を中心として、さまざまなエレメントが旋回し、空間が放射状に削られているかのような状況が生まれ、求心性と包容感のある空間がつくり出される。（増田忠史、蜂谷伸治、日高啓道）
A store specializing in shaved ice that spreads out around the ice shaving machine on the stage
Shaved ice has long been a favorite summer treat in Japan. In recent years, premium shaved ice, made with carefully selected ingredients, ice production areas, and shaving methods has become popular regardless of the season.
The shaved ice is made by a shaved ice craftsman using a particular machine to spin, shave, and shape a square block of ice into a beautiful shaved ice. A large table was placed at the center of the space as a stage so that customers could watch and enjoy this process from their seats. Multiple circles are drawn on the floor centered on the rotating axis of the ice shaving machine, and the shape and arrangement of the ceiling, floor, furniture, lighting, etc., are determined using these circles as auxiliary lines. By doing so, the various elements swivel around the place where the ice shaver is shaving ice, creating a space where the space seems to be shaved radially, creating a space with centripetal force and a sense of inclusiveness.（Tadafumi Masuda, Shinji Hachiya, Hiromichi Hidaka）
