兵庫県姫路市の老舗精肉店 安積精肉店の新築移転計画。神戸牛を専門に扱う精肉店として地元では有名な精肉店。移転先は姫路城に臨む基幹道路の交差点。姫路城に対面する建築として、その存在感の重みと、交差点のランドマークとしての要素が求められた。
1階の精肉店の天井高を6.2mとし、頭上に巨大な光障子を配置、ファサードを全面ガラスとすることで建築自体を巨大な行燈のように見せ、歴史ある街のランドマークとしてふさわしいものにした。交差点に面するコーナー部は敷地の隅切りに合わせて階段状にし、パラペット上の間接照明で東西と南北方向の流れを繋いだ。（KTXアーキラボ）
Relocating a local long-established butcher shop into a new building that illuminates the city
Azumi’s new building relocation responds to its immediate environment and lets the form assume its urban position. The locally famous meat shop specializing in Kobe beef settles down in a significant location at the intersection of two main roads facing the world heritage Himeji Castle. This location implies that the building has a natural vocation of being an urban landmark.
The ceiling height inside the butcher shop was set to 6.2m, fitted with a large shoji, a traditional Japanese paper screen, placed overhead.
The facade is totally glazed, turning the building into a monumental Japanese lantern shining in the historical city. Both sides facing the main roads are topped with an indirect lighting line, and the corner at the intersection is stair-shaped, fashioning a smooth connection of the flows in the east-west and north-south directions. On the second floor behind the shoji lays a yakiniku, a Japanese barbecue restaurant, offering another Japanese quality experience, melding architecture with the gastronomical experience of wagyu.
