設計者の自邸。
約40坪の広くない敷地に、祖母、父母、子ども2人、2世帯5人の暮らす住宅と、設計者のアトリエも構えるという、少し欲張りな計画。
計画地周辺は昔ながらの住宅密集地。高齢世帯や空き家が目立ちはじめ、熊本地震以降、マンションや店舗、病院などの中規模建築が混在して建つようになった。計画敷地西側にも長年放置された空き家があり、北側前面道路以外はぐるりと老人ホームに囲まれている。周辺環境の変化を予測しづらい敷地において、近隣といったん距離を置くために、敷地いっぱいに閉じた家型のボリュームをつくり、その中に細長い中庭を設ける計画とした。
幅一間の小さな中庭は、住宅とアトリエのアプローチを兼用している。
壁で囲まれ、プライバシーを確保した1階の中庭と繋がるように、内外を一体に感じられる玄関ラウンジを設けている。1階は洗面・トイレの水回りをコアとして、回遊できる動線の中に、庭を眺められるガラス張りの浴室、家事のできる階段下カウンター、祖母が寛げるラウンジなど、小さな居場所を埋め込みながら、限られた空間で、2世帯が気づまりにならない工夫をしている。
一方、2階レベルでは、中庭の外壁に防火設備となる開口部を設けることで、いったん閉ざした周辺環境と中庭を介して繋がる。フレーミングされた周辺環境をインテリアのように室内に取り込み、広がりのある、明るい空間をつくっている。また、中庭に面してLDK、寝室、子ども室を設けることで、どこにいても外部との繋がりを感じることができ、さらに中庭を介して、離れた部屋から家族の気配も伝わる計画としている。中庭の外壁は、延焼ラインを切る防火壁として機能しており、中庭に面する諸室の開口部は防火設備の縛りなく、大開口の高断熱既製サッシの採用を可能にしている。
壁に囲われた中庭と、中庭を介して開かれた開口部によって、周辺環境から住宅内までが重層的に繋がっていく。住宅密集地においても、光や風、緑を生活の中に取り入れ、さらに雑多な周辺環境さえ美しく感じられる、のびやかな暮らしを叶えている。（阿部悠子）
A house where the outside and inside are connected in multiple layers by a narrow courtyard and an opening
The designer’s residence.
On a not-so-large site of approximately 130 m2, the project was a bit greedy, with a house for two households of five people (grandmother, parents, and two children) and the designer’s atelier.
The site is located in a dense residential area. Since the Kumamoto earthquake, a mix of medium-scale buildings, such as condominiums, stores, and hospitals, have been built in the area. There is also a vacant house on the west side of the project site that has been abandoned for many years, and the area is surrounded by nursing homes except for the front road on the north side. In order to keep a distance from the neighborhood, a closed house-shaped volume was built on the entire site with a long and narrow courtyard inside.
The small courtyard, 1.8 meters wide, serves as an approach to both the house and the atelier. The entrance lounge is connected to the courtyard on the first floor, which is enclosed by a wall to ensure privacy and provides a sense of unity between the inside and outside. The limited space is designed in such a way that the two households do not feel uncomfortable together, with small places for them to stay.
On the second-floor level, an opening in the exterior wall of the courtyard serves as a fire prevention facility, connecting the once-closed environment with the surrounding environment through the courtyard. The framing of the surrounding environment is incorporated into the interior, creating an expansive and bright space. The LDK, bedrooms, and children’s room face the courtyard, allowing the residents to feel a connection to the outside wherever they are and to feel the presence of family members from distant rooms through the courtyard. The exterior wall of the courtyard functions as a firewall to cut the fire spread line, allowing the use of large-aperture, high-insulation, ready-made sashes for the openings of the rooms facing the courtyard without being restricted by fire prevention equipment.
The walled courtyard and the openings through the courtyard create a multilayered connection from the surrounding environment to the house’s interior. Even in a densely populated residential area, light, wind, and greenery are incorporated into daily life, and even the chaotic surrounding environment is perceived as beautiful, creating a relaxed lifestyle.
