山梨県の富士河口湖町に建つ、2歳までの子供たちが通う小さな保育園である。
敷地は遠くに悠然とそびえ立つ富士山が望め、3棟の高齢者施設が取り囲む中心にある。もともとここに建っていた建物の2階に保育室があったが、毎日の階段の上り下りや子供たちが部屋を出てしまった時の安全性、何より元気に遊び回れる園庭がなかったために、新しく保育園を建てることになった。
高齢者施設では音楽会や体操教室などのレクリエーションが日々行われ、お年寄りは散歩を兼ねて施設間を行き来する。また、クリニックに訪れる地域の人々や働く職員も多いことから、ここには子供たちを預かる施設としての保育園というより、もっとみんなが気軽に集まれる大らかな場所をつくろうと考えた。
囲まれた敷地に対して、さまざまな方向に開くようにいくつかの屋根をふわふわと架けていく。緩やかに湾曲した屋根は、園庭の大屋根ひろば、地域に開かれたラウンジ、14人の園児が過ごす保育室、富士山が見えるランチルーム、事務室をそれぞれに分節しながら、ひと繋がりの柔らかな環境をつくり出す。屋根の下では、元気に遊び回る子供たちがいたり、ひと息つくお年寄りがいたり、軒先で立ち話をするお母さんや、ひなたぼっこするネコなど、木陰に集まるように和やかな一時をみんなで楽しめる。
この保育園が世代や地域を超えたコミュニティの核となり、 豊かな交流を育む開かれた建物になればと思っている。（山下貴成）
A generous nursery space covered by a single curved roof
It is a small nursery school for children up to two years old, built in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture.
The site has a view of Mt. Fuji rising majestically in the distance and is located in the center, surrounded by three senior citizen facilities. Originally, the nursery was located on the second floor of the existing building, but the children had to walk up and down the stairs every day, and there was no yard for the children to play in and out of the room.
Recreational activities such as music concerts and gymnastics classes are held daily at the senior citizen facilities, and older adults go back and forth between the facilities for walks. Since many residents and employees visit the clinic, the idea was not to create a daycare center for children but rather a more relaxed place where everyone could easily get together.
The site is surrounded by a series of roofs that open in various directions. The gently curved roofs create a soft environment that connects the garden with a large roof plaza, a lounge open to the community, a nursery for 14 children, and a lunch room with a view of Mt. Under the roof, everyone can enjoy a peaceful moment as they gather in the shade of the trees, whether it is children playing around energetically, older adults taking a break, mothers chatting, standing by the roof’s eaves, or cats basking in the sun.
This nursery will become the nucleus of a community that transcends generations and regions, an open building that fosters rich interactions. (Takashige Yamashita)
