敷地は箱根山の西麓に位置する高台の住宅地にあり、西側および北側には神社の森、南側には山麓に沿って緩やかに傾斜する茶畑が広がっている。このような豊かな周辺の自然環境と、クライアントの日々の暮らしが柔らかくつながる建築をつくりたいと思った。
敷地形状は山裾に従って弓なり型をしているため、単純な建物の配置ではなく、建物のボリュームをいくつかに分割する構成を検討し、それらを重ね合わせることで、変化や動きを生み出しながら周辺環境との調和を図った。
この建築は、南側の天井の高い大きなLDKのボリュームと、寝室や子供部屋、浴室などの水回りやワークスペースといった諸室が配置される2層分のボリュームの２つで構成されている。
LDKが配置された住まいのボリュームと、もう一方のボリュームの各々が相互に関係する断面構成とすることで、家族で過ごす場所と個人の場所が生活のさまざまな場面でゆるやかに重なるように計画している。
また、2つのボリュームは、それぞれが支え合うような木架構の構造となっているため、空間相互のつながりが構造的にも表現され、この建築の空間体験を支えていると言える。
このような内部に生まれるつながりを、南側に設けたテラスによって外部へと連続させることで、建物がもつ透明性を生み出している。また、この建築を通して表れる、立体的に浮かび上がる日々の暮らしと周辺環境との関係性が、家族やその周りの人々の生活のよりどころとなることを期待している。（木村日出夫、木村淳子）
A house on a hill where the frames that support each other emerge
The site is located in a residential area on high ground at the western foot of Mt. Hakone, with a shrine forest to the west and north and a tea plantation sloping gently along the foot of the mountain to the south.
We wanted to create an architecture that would softly connect the rich natural environment of the surrounding area with the client’s daily life.
The site is shaped like a bow along the foot of the mountain, making a simple building layout difficult.
The building consists of two volumes: a large, high-ceilinged LDK volume on the south side, designed to resemble a theater, and a two-story volume containing various rooms such as bedrooms, children’s rooms, bathrooms, and workspaces.
The LDK volume is designed as a theater for the house, and the other volume is designed in a cross-sectional configuration that allows the family and individual spaces to overlap in various aspects of daily life gently.
In addition, the two volumes are constructed with a wooden frame structure that supports each other, which supports the spatial experience of this architecture by structurally directing the interconnectedness of the interior spaces.
The continuity created within the interior is extended to the exterior by the large terrace on the south side, making a sense of transparency that the building possesses. The relationship between daily life and the surrounding environment, which emerges three-dimensionally through this architecture, will become a source of comfort for the family and the people around them.
