この住宅は沖縄県北部の山の中腹を開発してつくられた住宅地の端にあり、北側に海を眺望する自然に囲まれた場所に建っている。
敷地は高台にあるため1年を通して風が良く通り、影のある所であれば真夏でも快適に過ごすことができる。建主も風が抜ける影の空間の居心地の良さを知っており、自然の中での開放的な暮らしができる住宅を望まれ、特に昼夜を問わず外で過ごすことが好きなので快適な半屋外の空間をつくって欲しいことや、将来は海外との2拠点の生活を想定しているため1年の半分程度はホテルとして運営していきたいと要望された。
建物は緑化された大きな屋根の下の開放的な広間と屋根を支える最小限の室内化された個室からなり、半屋外の広間は深い影に覆われ1年を通して沖縄の豊かな自然を実感させてくれる。
個室は居間や食堂、浴室などの機能に別れているが各々が広間へと機能が拡張され広間を介し内と外、個室同士の生活の行為が繋がっていく。諸室の機能によって区切られることのない内外を通して連続した生活環境が営まれることで、豊かな自然を享受する現代の沖縄の住宅になるのではないかと考えた。（五十嵐敏恭）
A house and hotel surrounded by a large roof, living together with rich nature
The house is on the edge of a residential area developed on a mountainside in northern Okinawa. It is surrounded by nature and views the ocean to the north.
The site is located on a hill, which allows for good breezes throughout the year, making it comfortable even in mid-summer if there are shaded areas. The owner also knows the comfort of the shadowy space where the wind passes through, and he wants a house where he can live openly amid nature. The building has an extensive green roof.
The building consists of an open hall under an extensive green roof and a minimal number of private rooms supporting the roof. The semi-outdoor hall is covered with deep shadows, allowing the guests to experience the rich nature of Okinawa throughout the year.
The private rooms are divided into a living room, dining room, bathroom, etc., but each room extends its function into a hall, connecting the inside and outside through the hall and the activities of daily life between the private rooms. The house is not separated by the functions of the various rooms but is a continuous living environment inside and out, which I thought would make it a contemporary Okinawan residence that enjoys rich nature.
