本計画地は、岐阜県瑞穂市牛牧に位置する。田園、住宅、商業、工場といった多様な土地利用が混在する地域であり、近年の人口流入に伴って宅地化が進み、今後もさまざまな用途の建築が点在する風景が形成されていくことが予想される。当敷地も交通の便から牛牧地方に住むことを決め、田んぼであった土地を購入し造成してから住宅の計画が始まった。
この不確かな周囲の環境に対して、内向性をもつ空間と周囲との距離を図る物質性を手掛かりに住まいとしてのあり方を構想した。内向性を保持するために、住まいの用途ごとに割り出した空間を一度単独化し、それらを繋ぎ合わせるように孔を開け接続し再び1つの住空間として束ねていく操作を行った。また、空間を一度単独化させることで、1つの空間としての完結性や外部の環境に左右されない内向性が生まれると考えた。それは単に物理的な内向性だけではなく、単独としての空間の連なりが幾重にも展開され、外部との距離を図る心理的な内向性をも獲得できるのではないかと期待した。
また空間同士の接続の際に、やや分厚い垂れ壁を設けたり、懐のある孔を設けたり、接続点をなだらかにする半円を用いたりと、分節と接続を物質をもってコントロールしてほかの空間との距離を測るようにした。と同時に、それらはこの不確かな外部環境との距離に対しての均整を保つのに必要だと感じた。
また、物質としての輪郭を強調させるために内外装材は抽象度が高い素材を選定し、極力無駄な線は削ぎ落としていった。さらに、この建築の大きな特徴的な要素である「半円」は1つの空間言語＝コードとして、ニッチの面台、引き手の金物、家具、建具といったディテールにいたるまで展開している。このような反復と変奏を空間の中で体感することで、訪れる人々や住まい手にとって、この住まいの奥行きと深度を感じてもらえることを願っている。（野村亮介）
A house with a series of introverted spaces and a "materiality" that regulates the sense of distance and depth.
The proposed site is located in Ushimaki, Mizuho City, Gifu Prefecture. The area features a diverse mix of land uses, including rural, residential, commercial, and industrial areas. With the recent population influx, the area has been converted into residential land, and it is expected that a landscape dotted with buildings of various uses will continue to evolve in the future. The site was also chosen for its convenient transportation access in the Ushimaki area, and the housing project commenced after the purchase and development of land that had previously been used as rice paddies.
In response to the uncertain surrounding environment, we conceived of the house as an introverted space and materiality that would distance it from its surroundings. To maintain the introverted layout, we isolated the spaces for each use within the house and then opened holes to connect them, forming a single, unified living space. We also believed that once the spaces were isolated, they would be complete as a single space and have an introversion that is not affected by the external environment. This is not only a physical introversion but also a psychological introversion, achieved through the development of a series of spaces as a stand-alone entity and a sense of distance from the outside world.
In connecting the spaces, I attempted to measure the distance from other spaces by controlling the division and connection with materials, such as thick hanging walls, holes with bosoms, and semicircles to make the connection points gentle. At the same time, it was necessary to maintain a sense of balance regarding this uncertain distance from the external environment.
To emphasize the material contours of the building, materials with a high level of abstraction were selected for the interior and exterior, and unnecessary lines were minimized as much as possible. Furthermore, the “semicircle,” a major characteristic element of this architecture, is used as a spatial language or code and is extended to details such as the niche face bases, pull hardware, furniture, and fixtures. By experiencing these repetitions and variations within the space, we hope that visitors and residents alike will sense the depth and profundity of this residence. (Ryosuke Nomura)
