幾何学構成のダイナミズムを空間体験に引き継ぐギャラリー

表参道ヒルズ裏で門型コンクリート壁と大きな窓が目を惹く小さなビル。その変形四角形平面の1階とB1階に新たに生まれた展示兼イベントスペースである。

安藤忠雄建築研究所設計の建物の特徴を活かしながらも使い勝手のよい展示空間とすべく、躯体をなるべく露出しながらバックヤードや設備類を組み込んだ展示壁や階段を挿入し、必要以上に主張を加えずに空間全体を整えていった。既存の床開口を活かした透過性のある床ハッチは、作品搬入口としてだけではなく吹き抜け利用や地下階へのトップライトのような効果を生み、ささやかに上下階の展示室を関係付ける。気積を最大化した展示室に天井の低い小空間や雰囲気の異なる階段が連なり、主空間を引き立てながらも体験にメリハリを与えている。

新たに挿入された3枚の白壁による展示空間は大きな窓や門型壁を通して街へと開かれ、この通りの魅力的な賑わいと心地よく繋がっていく。開放的な地上階と外階段に導かれて潜り込む地下階が街に対して異なる距離感を保ち、両フロアを一体・個別と使い分けることでさまざまな展示やイベントが可能である。建物のもつダイナミックな幾何学構成を空間体験へと引き継ぎ、この場所ならではの企画や展示ができるような特異性と汎用性を兼ね備えたおおらかな場を目指した。小さくとも魅力的なコンテンツが街へと発信されることを期待している。（小室舞）

A gallery that translates the dynamism of geometric composition into spatial experience

A small building behind Omotesando Hills, featuring an eye-catching gate-shaped concrete wall and large windows. This newly created exhibition and event space occupies the first floor and basement level of its irregularly shaped rectangular structure.

While preserving the distinctive features of the building designed by Tadao Ando Architects, the goal was to create a functional exhibition space. This was achieved by exposing the structural elements as much as possible, integrating back-of-house areas and utilities into display walls and staircases, and refraining from adding unnecessary assertiveness to the overall spatial composition. Transparent floor hatches, utilizing existing floor openings, serve not only as artwork access points but also create effects like a double-height space and a skylight for the basement level, subtly connecting the exhibition rooms on different floors. Within the exhibition room maximized for volume, low-ceilinged niches and staircases with distinct atmospheres connect, complementing the main space while adding rhythm to the experience.

The newly inserted exhibition space, defined by three white walls, opens to the street through large windows and arch-shaped walls, creating a pleasant connection to the street’s charming bustle. The open ground floor and the external staircase guide visitors down to the basement level, which maintains a distinct sense of distance from the street. Using both floors as either integrated or separate spaces enables diverse exhibitions and events. The building’s dynamic geometric structure translates into a spatial experience, aiming for a generous venue that combines uniqueness and versatility, capable of hosting programs and exhibitions specific to this location.
