敷地は岐阜県羽島市。田園が広がる穏やかな風景の中にある。初めてこの地を訪れたとき、山から吹き下ろす風に稲穂が揺れる情景が深く印象に残った。
本計画は、土木建設業と不動産業を営む企業の新たな拠点として、地域に根ざし長く愛される新社屋の建設を求められたものである。 私たちは検討を重ねる中で、敷地を取り囲む「その土地にとっての日常的な風景」に潜む価値を最大限に引き出すことこそが、今回のこの場所で求められる建築計画の本質であると考え、周辺環境や自然に習い溶け込ませるという手法ではなく、建物の存在によってそういった価値にふと気づかされる「装置」のような建築を構想するにいたった。
象徴的な屋根は東へ向かって大きくせり上がり、空を切り取るようなプロポーションを描く一方で、軒先は地面に迫るほど低く抑えている。屋根の一部にうねりを加えることで、建物の輪郭に微かな揺らぎを与え、光の反射や空の色、雨粒の動きなどが浮き立たせ、環境や現象を顕在化し周辺環境の魅力を引き立てることを意図すると共に、内部の必要な場所に日光や風景を取り込む操作としても機能している。
内部空間の構成は、内と外がさまざまな距離感で繋がることを意識して設計を行った。せり上がった軒下に自然と生まれる高さのある空間には、エントランスや会議室などの共用部を配置し、テラス空間を室内にまで引き込んでいる。執務室には内庭や縁側といった中間領域を挿入し、屋外と緩やかに繋ぐ構成とした。
この「装置」がつくり出す場所への気づきによって、この土地に住まう人、初めて訪れる人、さまざまな人々の記憶に残る「新しい日常の風景」が根付き広がっていくことを願っている。

An office building with a sweeping roof that accentuates the land's character
The site is located in Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture. It sits amidst tranquil countryside landscapes. When I first visited this place, the sight of rice stalks swaying in the wind blowing down from the mountains left a deep impression.
This project was commissioned to build a new headquarters for a company engaged in civil engineering and real estate, a new office building rooted in the community and destined to be cherished for years to come. Through our deliberations, we concluded that the essence of the architectural plan for this site lay in maximizing the value inherent in the “everyday landscape of the land” surrounding it. Rather than adopting an approach of blending into the surrounding environment and nature, we conceived an architecture that functions like a “device” – one that, through the building’s very presence, prompts one to notice and appreciate that inherent value suddenly.
The symbolic roof rises dramatically toward the east, creating a proportion that seems to slice through the sky, while the eaves are kept low, almost touching the ground. By introducing undulations into part of the roof, we impart a subtle fluctuation to the building’s outline. This design aims to highlight reflections of light, the color of the sky, and the movement of raindrops, making the environment and phenomena more apparent and enhancing the appeal of the surrounding area. It also functions to bring sunlight and views into necessary interior spaces.
The interior spatial composition was designed with a conscious effort to connect the inside and outside at various distances. The naturally elevated space beneath the soaring eaves houses shared areas such as the entrance and meeting rooms, drawing the terrace into the interior. Intermediate zones, such as an inner courtyard and veranda, are inserted into the offices, creating a composition that gently connects them to the outdoors.
Through the awareness of the places created by this “device,” we hope a “new everyday landscape” will take root and spread, one that remains in the memories of those who live on this land, those visiting for the first time, and all kinds of people.
