訪れた当初、土間からは草が生えており、もぬけの殻。外皮はひどく痛み、屋根からは光が差し込んでいた。すべてを真新しく改修することは予算的にも難しく、改修する範囲を見直す必要があった。そこで我々は、この建物を「脱皮」させることにした。
古びた外皮を脱ぎ、一部を抜け殻のように残す。そして現代の生活に適応した新たな姿を並べた。新たな身体には外骨格の強度や性能を高め、再生された新しさの表明や、四季折々の色彩を映し取れるように真白い外観を与えた。一方は元の家屋の外郭に、自然の中に心地よく佇めるだけの手当てを施し、抜け殻のまま残した。真白い住居の隣にあるのは制約のない領域。
夏と冬が扉を超えて入れ替わるように、異なる世界の領域を自在に行き来するような、二極をトリップする暮らしに可能性を感じている。

A house that metabolizes its outer skin and traverses different domains
When we first visited, weeds grew through the earthen floor, leaving it hollow. The outer shell was severely damaged, with light streaming through the roof. A complete renovation was financially unfeasible, so we needed to rethink the scope of the work. We decided to let this building “shed its skin.”
We shed the aged exterior, leaving part of it behind like an empty shell. Then we juxtaposed it with a new form adapted to modern living. The new body gained the strength and performance of an exoskeleton, with a pure white exterior that expresses its regenerated newness and reflects the colors of the changing seasons. Meanwhile, the original house’s outer shell was left untouched, preserved as an empty shell, requiring only enough care to allow it to stand comfortably within nature. Adjacent to the pure white dwelling lies an unrestricted domain.
We sense the potential for a life traversing two poles—moving freely between distinct realms, much like summer and winter swapping places beyond a door.
