東に太平洋の光、西に丘陵の静けさ。山と海のはざまにあるこの地は「双海」と呼ばれる。かつてより人々はこの複雑な地形と向き合い暮らしを紡いできた。漁港の佇まい穏やかな海岸線にはどこか昭和の面影が残り、遠い記憶を呼び覚ますような懐かしさがある。喧騒から距離を置き終の住処としてこの地に身を移した。
壮大な海原と包み込むような山並みに囲まれた高台にそっと身を預けるように建っている。ほとんどの生活は1階で完結し、2階には小さな書斎と碧く広がる水平線を望む静かな居場所がある。1日の大半を過ごす1階は、庭と地面に寄り添いながら水平に広がり、2階には書斎を設け、静かな時間を海と共に過ごせるようにした。玄関から続く土間は、縦横に広がる余白として住まいの中心を成している。そこでは素材と光が重なり合い、形の輪郭が溶け合うような静謐で奥行きある空間が生まれている。スケールや素材の違いは空間の中に静かなリズムを与え、それらを繋ぐ秩序が住まいにゆるやかな芯を通している。
海に向かう東側には開かれた大きな空間を設け、風と光とともに海と繋がる。西の山側にはひそやかに眠れる寝室を配し、静かに内へと帰っていくような導線を用意した。建物は単に風景に寄り添うのではなく、この土地と共に呼吸しながら人と自然のあいだに小さな橋を架けようとしている。暮らしそのものが風景となり、風景がまた暮らしに染み込んでいく。そんな豊かさの記憶を刻む住まいでありたいと願っている。
この家に「碧の望楼」と名を付けた。
この地の碧い海と空、碧緑の山々の境界にただずみ、
日々移ろう光と風を感じ、
心の波もまた穏やかに鎮まっていく場所。
時に海を見下ろし、
時に心を澄ませ人生の後半を見晴らす「望楼」のように。

A residence engraved with abundance between the sea and the mountains
To the east lies the light of the Pacific Ocean, and to the west, the tranquility of the hills. This land nestled between mountains and sea is known as “Futami.” Since ancient times, people have lived here, adapting to the complex terrain. The fishing port and its serene coastline retain a nostalgic aura reminiscent of the Showa era, evoking distant memories. Seeking respite from the hustle and bustle, one has chosen this place as their final home.
The house is perched on a hilltop, surrounded by the vast ocean and embracing mountain ranges, as if gently resting against them. Most daily life takes place on the first floor, while the second floor features a small study and a quiet space overlooking the azure horizon. The first floor, where most of the day is spent, spreads out horizontally, blending with the garden and the ground, while the second floor houses the study, allowing for quiet moments spent with the sea. The entrance hall, which continues from the entrance, serves as the center of the house, with its expansive open space. Here, materials and light intertwine, creating a serene and deep space where the contours of forms seem to melt together. The differences in scale and materials impart a quiet rhythm to the space, and the order that connects them gives the house a gentle core.
On the east side facing the sea, an ample open space was created to connect with the sea through wind and light. On the west side facing the mountains, a quiet bedroom was placed, with a layout that guides one back into the interior. The building does not merely blend into the landscape but breathes with the land, bridging the gap between people and nature. Life itself becomes the landscape, and the landscape permeates life. This home will be a place that etches such richness into memory.
We named this house “The Blue Lookout.”
Standing at the boundary of the blue sea and sky, and the emerald mountains of this land,
feeling the ever-changing light and wind each day,
a place where the waves of the heart also calmly settle.
At times overlooking the sea,
at times, clearing the mind to gaze upon the latter half of life, like a “lookout.”
