西宮市北部、里山のふもとに建つ住まいである。周辺はなだらかな山林のあいまに田畑が広がった、空の広いのどかな地域。この敷地も、北東方向がそんな自然豊かな里山に隣接している。しかし、それ以外の方角に関しては、隣家や田畑からの視線が気になる立地でもあった。
計画にあたっての課題は、そのような環境のなかでプライバシーを確保しつつ、北東に隣接する里山風景をできるだけ活かすこと。そこであえて、その里山「だけ」しか見えない切り取られたビューをメインに据え、一方で全体はロの字型プランとして外部からの視線を遮りつつ、住まいの中心にある中庭からの光で充たしていく構成とした。
RC壁式構造でつくられた建物は、外観からも明らかなように機能の異なる2つの構造体から成り立っている。1つは、室内空間を形成するためのRC打ち放しの躯体。17.5×11.5ｍの長方形の真ん中に6.8×4.5ｍの中庭を内包する、とてもシンプルでマッシブな矩形である。
もう1つは、その躯体を覆い隠すように複雑な形状で纏わりつく白い壁である。この白い壁は、玄関までの長いアプローチの屋根、北東の里山に臨む里山テラス、そのほかの小窓の庇、あるいは屋上の室外機を隠す壁などの役割をもった構造体で、いびつな敷地形状に従いながらも、合理的かつ印象的なかたちとなって建物を完成させている。このマッシブさと軽快さの対比が、里山の緑のなかにくっきりと浮かび上がるように意識して設計にあたった。
内部空間は、ミニマムながら装飾的なタイルを要所に用いることで、現代的かつ女性的な優しさが加えられた。そのタイルが木の力強さを感じる1枚板のダイニングテーブルや北欧デザインの椅子、民芸細工のようなペンダント照明などを設置することで一体的に調和し、シンプルでミニマルな空間がもつ冷たさと緊張感が緩和され、温かさと居心地の良さとのバランス感覚がとてもうまくいったインテリアとなった。
周囲に塀を設けることなしにプライバシーを完全に保ちながら、同時に里山の環境と風景も楽しむことができるコートヤードハウスである。

A white-walled residence in layered harmony with the satoyama landscape
This residence stands at the foot of a satoyama landscape in northern Nishinomiya City. The surrounding area is a tranquil region with expansive fields nestled among gently rolling woodlands and open skies. This site itself borders such a naturally rich satoyama to the northeast. However, its location also meant concerns about visibility from neighboring houses and fields in other directions.
The challenge in planning was to ensure privacy within this environment while maximizing the use of the satoyama landscape adjacent to the northeast. Therefore, the design deliberately focused on a framed view where only that satoyama is visible. Simultaneously, the overall L-shaped plan blocks external sightlines while filling the space with light from the central courtyard.
Constructed with reinforced concrete walls, the building’s exterior clearly reveals its composition of two distinct structural elements. One is the exposed concrete frame forming the interior spaces: a simple, massive rectangle measuring 17.5×11.5m, with a 6.8×4.5m courtyard at its center.
The other is a complex, white wall that wraps around and conceals the structural core. This white wall serves multiple functions: it forms the roof over the long approach to the entrance, creates the Satoyama Terrace facing the northeastern hills, provides eaves for other small windows, and acts as a screen for rooftop outdoor units. While conforming to the irregular site shape, it completes the building with a rational yet striking form. This contrast between massiveness and lightness was consciously designed to make the building stand out distinctly against the green of the satoyama.
The interior space, while minimalist, incorporates decorative tiles at key points, adding a modern and feminine softness. These tiles harmonize seamlessly with the solid-wood dining table, Nordic-style chairs, and folk-art-inspired pendant lighting, softening the inherent coolness and tension of a simple minimalist space. The result is an interior that strikes an excellent balance between warmth and comfort.
This courtyard house maintains complete privacy without surrounding walls, allowing residents to enjoy the satoyama environment and scenery simultaneously.
