知り合いである画家のアトリエと、その家族のための家。
敷地は浅間山から市街地へと連なる、なだらかな傾斜地の中腹に位置する。敷地境界線の見えない広大な自然を前に、シンプルな「斜め」という言葉を頼りに、この建築は立っている。
斜面には、斜めの基礎を広げ、屋根もまた敷地勾配に沿うように傾けた。
地形のリズムから生まれた段々状の室内は、中央のアトリエを中心に周囲の部屋へとさまざまな関係性を生み出している。段々床と屋根の流れによって視線が自然と、たんぽぽ畑からアルプスに沈む夕陽へと移ろわせてくれる。
この家のすべての構成は単純であり、どこの住宅でも見られる。特別なものは何もない。しかし、そんな普遍が「斜め」という敷地の本質を静かに受け止めることで、家族の生活がその環境に立つことができる。
街へ降りて日中を過ごし、日暮れ前に山を登って帰ってくる。そんな振り子のような往復の延長に、この家も息づいている。
ダイニングへ降り、夕陽を眺めながら食卓を囲む。登ってまた降りて、風呂に入る。いちばん下の洞窟に潜り込むように、寝室で眠りにつく。そしてまた、次の朝がくる。
こうして暮らしは地形のリズムと共に生き、建築は地球と、そして家族と、互いを尊重する関係性を結びながら、輪郭を静かに定着させていく。

A House Living in Harmony with the Rhythm of the Terrain
A house for an artist acquaintance and his family, serving as both studio and residence.
The site lies midway up a gentle slope extending from Mount Asama toward the city. Facing vast, unbroken nature where boundaries dissolve, this building stands guided solely by the simple concept of “slope.”
The foundation spreads diagonally across the slope, and the roof tilts to follow the site’s gradient.
The terraced interior, shaped by the terrain’s rhythm, creates varied relationships between the central studio and the surrounding rooms. The flow of the stepped floors and roof naturally guides the gaze from a field of dandelions to the sunset sinking behind the Alps.
Every element of this house is simple, found in any home. Nothing is special. Yet, by quietly embracing the site’s essential “slope,” this universality allows the family’s life to stand within its environment.
Descending to town for the day, climbing the mountain back before dusk. This house breathes within the extension of such pendulum-like comings and goings.
Descending to the dining area, they gather around the table while watching the sunset. Climbing back up, then descending again to bathe. Like slipping into the lowest cave, they fall asleep in the bedroom. And then, the next morning arrives.
Thus, life flows with the terrain’s rhythm. The architecture quietly establishes its contours, forming a relationship of mutual respect with the earth and with the family.
