敷地は甲州民家が建ち並ぶ集落にある。周辺には桃農園が拡がり、建て主も家業の桃農園を継ぐためにこの地に家を建てた。
周辺の家並みに呼応するような家型をしている。その屋根は2階をすっぽり覆い、空気層の鎧をまとったかたちとし、日照時間の長いこの地域から生活空間を守るよう計画した。
1階は農作業の休憩や、集落の集まりにも使えるよう土間を配し、ダイニングキッチンと連続させた。1階より半階上がり、踊り場のようなリビングを設け、そこから2階へと連続するように計画し、家型がそのまま室内空間をかたちづくっている。2階はオープンなワンルームであり、家具などでそれぞれのスペースを形成している。
全体は、完全なワンボリュームの空間であり、昔の屋根裏における蚕部屋のイメージを継承した。
空気環境としては、このワンボリュームの空間を最大限生かすべく、土間に設けた薪ストーブの熱気が家中に循環するよう各所に開閉窓を設けた。トップライト以外は控えめな開口とし風通しを第一に考慮した計画としている。それによって、真夏の季節であっても洞窟のような冷房いらずの空間になっていて、つかの間の農作業の休憩の際も落ち着いた室内空間になった。
この家を建てる前に、先代の家族がほぼ手づくりした築80年の民家が建っていた。解体の際に、大梁や丁寧に作られた建具を保存し、2階のつなぎ梁やお母様の部屋のふすまへ再利用し、これまでの記憶を橋渡ししたつもりでいる。（樋口善信）
A one-volume house that matches the shape of the surrounding house
The site is located in a village lined with Koshu Minka. Peach orchards spread out in the surrounding area, and the owner built the house here to take over the family’s peach orchard business.
The shape of the house is in keeping with the surrounding houses. The roof completely covers the second floor and is covered with an air layer of armor to protect the living space from the long hours of sunlight in this area.
The first floor is connected to the dining room and kitchen with an earthen floor for farm work and community gatherings, and the living room is half a story above the first floor. The second floor is an open one-room space, with furniture and other items forming the individual spaces.
The entire space is a complete one-volume space, inheriting the image of a silkworm room in an old attic.
In order to maximize the air environment in this one-volume space, openable windows were installed throughout the house to allow the hot air from the wood-burning stove on the earthen floor to circulate throughout the house. Except for the top light, the openings are kept modest, and ventilation is the primary consideration in this project. This makes the house a cave-like space that does not need air-conditioning even in the midsummer season, and it also provides a calm indoor space for taking a break from farm work.
Before this house was built, there was an 80-year-old private house that was almost entirely handmade by the previous generation’s family. When the house was demolished, the large beams and carefully crafted fixtures were preserved and reused in the second floor connecting beams and the fusuma (sliding door) in the mother’s room, bridging the memories of the past.
