〈WHITE GLASS COFFEE 福岡〉は、専門学校Visionary arts建物内1階に路面店としてオープンした。
「現場で学ぶ」という学校の理念のもとに専門学校の学生が運営に関わるカフェであり、スイーツは学生による手作りのものを、コーヒーはOBSCURA COFFEE ROASTERSによる監修のもと、自家焙煎した本格的なコーヒーを提供している。
店舗のデザインは、そうした手作り・クラフトの精神を大切にしながら、「温かさ」「洗練さ」が現れるデザインを目指した。具体的には当店舗の前身となる店舗の仕上げ（床や一部壁面のフローリング古材、柱型の貼られたブリックタイル、木目が表れているコンクリート丸柱）を効果的に残し、製作照明器具のガラスグローブは、京都の廃校になった学校から譲り受けたものを使用するなど、使われてきた素材を活かしながら新しく加えた素材（ブラックチェリー材、真鍮色金物、人工大理石、左官仕上げなど）との自然な調和を試みた。
特にメインカウンターの背面では左官で新しい仕上げをあしらっているが、その中の棚の背面には改装前の古材仕上げの壁を現し、明快な対比をつくり出して新旧を象徴的に演出することで、お店の顔の空間としてお客様を迎え入れている。
カフェ文化が発達している福岡市博多駅周辺という立地の中で認知され発展していくために、提供される食品の質はもちろんのこと、「温かさ」「洗練さ」が現れる空間の質が合わさって人々に受け入れられ長く愛され続いていくことを願っている。（宇津木喬行＋清水豪輝）
A coffee shop that embodies warmth and sophistication
“WHITE GLASS COFFEE Fukuoka” opened as a street store on the first floor of the Visionary Arts vocational school building.
The cafe is operated by students of the vocational school based on the school’s philosophy of “learning on the spot,” with sweets handmade by the students and authentic coffee roasted in-house under the supervision of OBSCURA COFFEE ROASTERS.
In designing the store, we aimed to create a design that would show “warmth” and “sophistication” while respecting the spirit of such handmade and crafted products. Specifically, we effectively left the finish of the predecessor store (floor and part of the wall flooring, brick tiles with pillar shapes, round concrete pillars with wood grain) and the production lighting fixtures. For the glass globe of the pendant light, I used the one given to me by a closed school in Kyoto. In addition, we tried to create a natural harmony with the newly added materials (black cherry wood, brass-colored hardware, artificial marble, plastering finish, etc.) while making use of the materials that have been used.
For the café to be recognized and developed in the Hakata Station area of Fukuoka City, where café culture is well developed, we hope that the quality of the food served, combined with the quality of the space, which displays “warmth” and “sophistication,” will be accepted and loved by people for a long time to come.
