タイ建築の伝統を継ぐガラスと木の瞑想センター

〈ガラスパビリオン （Glass Pavillion）〉は、タイ・バンコクに位置するオフィスビルの4階に建てられた、マインドフルネス活動や瞑想のための多目的スペースです。

バンコクを拠点に活動するデザイン事務所 M Spaceが設計しました。

〈TDPKオフィスビル〉の4階に位置する瞑想センターは、一般の人々がマインドフルネス活動や瞑想を行うための多目的スペースである。

都会のコミュニティに静かな環境をつくり出し、若い専門家や外国人居住者が瞑想の実践にアクセスできるようにすることで、仕事の効率を高めることを目的としている。

この建物のデザインは、タイの伝統的な寺院や仏塔のシンプルかつエレガントなフォルムからインスピレーションを得ており、これらの神聖な形状を1つの象徴的な構造物に融合させている。

外装に使用されている素材により、建物は周囲の環境に自然に溶け込み、4階の屋上景観の一部であるかのように見える。

ガラスは主要な建築材料であり、伝統的なタイ建築で使用されてきたように、空気の要素を表している。このガラスに、宗教建築によく使用される地元の素材であるチーク材を組み合わせた。

鋼鉄のトラスとプレートを使用した構造となっており、水平線を強調することで自然光を内部に取り込んでいる。鋼鉄の表面は灰色に塗装されており、木々の影に似た色合いとすることでバンコクの曇天と湿気のある気候に調和している。

内部は、切妻屋根の形状から仏教に深い意味をもつ閉じた蓮のつぼみの形へと徐々に変化する、レイヤー状の空間として設計されている。

光は主に水平の鋼鉄表面の反射から得ており、チーク材の自然な色調と調和している。これにより、明るく、かつ温かみのある安らぎのある空間が創出されている。

GLASS PAVILLION
Project Overview: The meditation center on the 4th floor of the TDPK office building is a multifunctional space for the public to engage in mindfulness activities and meditation. The aim of the design is to create a serene environment in an urban community to allow both young professionals and expatriates to access meditation practices, thereby enhancing work efficiency.

The building’s design is inspired by the simple and elegant forms of traditional Thai temples and stupas. It combines these sacred shapes into a single symbolic structure. The materials used on the exterior allow the building to blend naturally with its surroundings, almost becoming part of the rooftop landscape on the fourth floor.

Glass is the main material, representing the element of air, just as it was used in traditional Thai architecture. This is combined with teak wood, a local material often found in religious buildings.

The structure is built using steel trusses and plates, emphasizing horizontal lines to bring natural light into the interior. The steel surfaces are painted gray, similar to the shadows of trees, harmonizing with Bangkok’s cloudy and humid climate.

Inside, the space is designed with layered levels, gradually transforming from a gable shape to a closed lotus bud, a form that holds deep meaning in Buddhism. The light mainly comes from reflections off the horizontal steel surfaces, blending with the natural tones of teak wood. This creates a bright yet warm and peaceful atmosphere.
