京都市内のホテルのエントランスロビーにおける改修計画である。
エントランスロビーのみの改修ではあったが、営業休止期間を最小限にするため、工期10日程度の短期集中型の計画が求められた。そこで、使い勝手が悪いところを除いては、既存の間取りを極力変更せずに、照明器具をデザインすることによって、空間を刷新することを試みた。
具体的には、そのままほぼ天井の仕上げとなるような、半月型の巨大なランプシェードを2つ造作し、さらに、特注でつくった小さなペンダントライトをそれぞれに吊り下げている。
シェードの左右の端部を折り曲げ、プラスとマイナスの電極を振り分けることで、任意にペンダントライトを引っ掛けられるようになっている。シェードの内側には金箔のシートを貼り、小さな光でも空間を印象的な光で満たすようにした。
シェード以外の仕上げについては、陰影のバランスを見ながら、注意深く肌理（きめ）を揃えている。
リニューアル後は、より親しみやすい空間とするために、無料で利用できるコーヒーメーカーを設置し、ベンチも増設した。宿泊客を最初に迎えるエントランスとして、この大きな照明器具の、内装でもなくプロダクトでもない光の「しつらえ」によって、印象的な空間に一新された。（虎尾亮太＋謝 欣芸）
Short-term intensive renovation plan to transform the hotel's entrance with artificial lighting
This project was the restoration of a Hotel in Kyoto.
The renovation schedule had to be approximately ten days to keep the closing period as short as possible. Although the restoration was solely for the entrance lobby, it still meant a short and intensive building schedule. Apart from the inconvenient facility, few changes were made to the existing plan. Instead, the scene was renovated with the art of lighting designs.
Specifically, we created two colossal half-moon shaped lampshades that are almost the finishing touch to the ceiling and hung a small custom-made pendant light from each. On both sides of the bent lampshade, electrodes are installed; positive terminals on one side and negative on the other, so that the pendant lamps could be hanged from any point of the colossal shade. Moreover, the shadow’s inside is pasted with gold sheets to add a small number of aesthetic lights to space.
Other parts of the finishings are equally designed to match the ambiance of texture in the room, with extra focus on balance between light and shadow.
After the renovation, a free coffee maker was installed, and benches were added to make the space more intimate. As the first entrance to greet guests, this large light fixture is neither an interior nor a product, but merely designing an enormous luminaire. (Ryota Torao, Hsin-Yun Hsieh)
