開口部を手掛かりとした再構成による築40年の平屋リノベーション

木造平屋住宅の改修計画である。
40年前にこの住宅を建てた70代の夫婦は、現在は別の住まいで暮らし、この場所は夫婦が営む近所の子供たちを対象としたピアノ教室、書道教室として使われている。教室を続けながら、再びこの家で暮らすことを考え、部分的な間取りの変更、仕上げ・住設機器の一新を要望された。
玄関から直接つながる西側の2室は、既存のまま書道教室として使い、東半分が今回の計画対象となった。躯体の状態がよかったこともあり、そこには手を入れず、間仕切り・仕上げの位置を調整することでプランをつくっていくことになった。

敷地周辺は住宅が建ち並んでいるが、都心ほど建て詰まっているわけではなく、既存住宅がもつ開口部は、どの立面においても有効に機能しているように思われた。それら開口部からの光や風が開口をもつ部屋だけでなく、隣り合う部屋、建物全体で感じられるように、部屋の出入口や壁の位置を調整していった。

キッチンとリビングダイニングを隔てていた棚を撤去することで、暗くじめっとした空間をなくした。リビングと東側の2室をつないでいた廊下を収納へ変え、動線をより単純にした。人の出入りがありそうな玄関やLDKは屋根に合わせ勾配を取り、気積の大きな空間とした。LDKと一続きとなる奥の寝室は、日常的には一室となるような使い方が想定されたので、一間の開口を設け、戸袋をもつ引き分け戸で間仕切るようにした。
開口部については既存のままとし、玄関ドアと勝手口はフロストグラスの框戸にやり変えた。既存の型ガラス、施主が取り付けたレースのカーテンと合わせて内部に光を拡散させる。壁、天井は塗装クロス下地の上にグレー塗装を施し、木部はイエローラワンを染色した。仕上げ色や艶に注意することで、光の反射を弱め、落ち着いた印象の室内空間をつくり出そうとしている。

既存の開口部を手がかりに内部を再構成することで、広がりや光のグラデーションが生まれ、よりよい住環境になったのではないかと思う。施主との対話の中で決定していった仕上げや細部の処理が手持ちの家具を受け入れ、空間全体のイメージを統一している。（麻生征太郎）

A one-story renovation to improve quality of the space by reconfiguration using an opening as a clue

This is a renovation project of a one-story wooden house.
In their seventies, the couple who built the house forty years ago now live in a different house and use this place for their piano and calligraphy classes for the neighborhood children. Considering the possibility of living in this house again while continuing their lessons, they requested a partial change in the floor plan and a renewal of the finishes and housing equipment.
The two rooms on the west side of the house, which are directly connected to the entrance, are still used as calligraphy classrooms, and the east half of the house is the subject of this project. Because of the building frame’s excellent condition, it was decided not to make any changes to it but to create a plan by adjusting the position of partitions and finishes.

Although there are many houses around the site, they are not as crowded as those in the city center, and the openings of the existing dwellings seem to function effectively in all elevations. We adjusted the entrances and exits of the rooms and walls to feel the light and wind from the openings in the rooms with openings and the adjacent rooms and the entire building.

We eliminated a dark and stuffy space by removing the shelves that separated the kitchen from the living and dining rooms. The corridor that connected the living room to the two rooms on the east side of the house was converted into a storage space to simplify traffic flow. The entrance and LDK, where people are likely to come and go, are sloped to match the roof to create a large air volume space. The bedroom at the back, connected to the LDK, has a single opening and is divided by a sliding door with a door bag since it is expected to be used as a single room daily.
The opening was left as it was, and the entrance door and kitchen door were replaced with frosted glass stile and rail doors: the existing molded glass and lace curtains installed by the client diffuse light into the interior. I painted the walls and ceiling gray over the cloth base and stained the yellow lauan areas. By paying attention to the color and gloss, we are trying to weaken the reflection of light and create an interior space with a favorable impression.

Using the existing openings as a clue to reconfigure the interior, I believe we have created a better living environment by creating a gradation of expanse and light. The finishes and details, which we decided in dialogue with the client, accept the furniture on hand and unify the entire space’s image. (Seitaro Aso)
