計画地は、準工業地域に存する畑の一部を宅地利用したものあり、周囲は住宅、賃貸アパート、会社ビル、工場、コンテナ置き場などが混在している状況であった。また、残地とした畑や空き地が多くあり、孤立したような建ち方になることが想定できた。そのような状況の計画地に初めて立ったとき、直観として「積極的に周囲に開きたくない」と感じた。また、クライアントも開いた建ち方を望んではいなかった。その結果「外に閉じ、内で開く」ことが1つのテーマとなった。
もう1つのテーマは「物理的にも感覚的にも広い空間」である。これは、クライアントからの要望でもあった。この2つのテーマから「外部に閉じつつ、内部で大きな広がりをもたせる」をコンセプトとして設計をスタートさせた。
全体構成としては、建物の1階南側に前庭、2階中央部に中庭を配置し、外壁により閉じることで、開放性や広がりをもたせつつ、プライベートな内外部空間を確保するというシンプルな構成をとった。1階前庭に面する南側を全面開口部とし、LDKから連続するかたちでデッキを設けることにより、視線の抜けや空間の広がりを与えている。また、2階中庭も同様にデッキや開口部を設け、内部空間との連続性をもたせつつ、物理的、感覚的な距離を内部空間に与えた。
LDKと玄関およびホールとの間には間仕切り壁を設けない平面構成とした。また、断面構成はLDKの天井高を2600ミリと不自然にならない程度に上げ、玄関およびホールを2階ホールおよび子供室と空間的に繋がるよう吹き抜け空間としている。
平面的、断面的な操作により内部空間でも連続性や広がりを演出している。加えて、玄関とホール・洗面と浴室など、他室を同一床材・同一色とすることや、ストリップ階段や鉄骨手摺の採用、内部建具を天井埋め込みにするなどして、素材やディテールの面でも視覚的・感覚的な操作を行った。
「外部に閉じつつ、内部で大きな広がりをもたせる」というコンセプトに対し、平面構成、断面構成、素材、ディテールなどのコントロールを行うことにより解決を試みた住宅である。（加藤直樹）
A house that opens while closing by controlling the plane, cross section, and material
The site was a part of a field in a semi-industrial area used as a housing site. It was surrounded by houses, rental apartments, company buildings, factories, and container yards. The surrounding area comprises houses, rental apartments, office buildings, factories, container yards, etc. In addition, there are many leftover fields and vacant lots, so it was expected that the building would be isolated. When I stood on the site for the first time, I intuitively felt that I did not want to open up the site to the surroundings actively. Also, the client did not want to build openly. As a result, one of the themes was to “close it to the outside and open it up inside.
Another theme was to create a space that is both physically and sensible spacious. This was also a request from the client. Based on these two themes, we started the design process with the concept of “closing the building to the outside while creating a large expanse inside.
The overall composition of the building is simple: a front yard on the south side of the first floor and a courtyard in the center of the second floor, closed off by exterior walls to create a sense of openness and spaciousness while maintaining the private interior and exterior spaces. The south side facing the front yard on the first floor is fully open, and the deck is continuous with the LDK, giving a sense of space and sightlines. The second-floor courtyard also has balconies and openings to create continuity with the interior spaces while providing physical and sensory distance to the interior spaces.
There are no partition walls between the LDK and the entrance and hall. The ceiling height of the LDK is raised to 2600mm, which is not unnatural, and the entrance and hall are vaulted to connect with the second-floor hall and children’s room.
The planar and cross-sectional manipulations create continuity and expansiveness in the interior spaces. In addition, visual and sensual manipulation was done in terms of materials and details, such as using the same flooring material and color for the entrance and hall, washbasin, and bathroom, adopting a strip staircase and steel handrail, and installing internal fixtures in the ceiling.
It is a house that attempts to solve the concept of “closing off the outside while creating a large expanse inside” by controlling the plan structure, section structure, materials, and details. (Naoki Kato)
