道路から傾斜地を少し上がる小高い場所に建つ住宅である。建物は連続性にこだわって設計されている。つまり、建物内部においては部屋と部屋の間に庭を挟むことで次の空間へとつながっていく。また、外部と内部の境をあいまいにすることで連続性を表現している。
庭と一体となった大きなリビング。ただ大きな空間では落ち着かず居心地が悪い。そこで南の庇を低く抑え長く張り出すことでそれを解消させている。リビングから続く部屋の前後には庭を配置することで風の流れをつくり、光を取り込む。結果、常に緑を感じられる気持ちのいい空間ができ上がった。
構造は耐震性を考慮し鉄筋コンクリート造としたが、屋根を鉄骨造とすることで、構造への負担を軽くし大空間を実現している。
平面計画はそれぞれの空間が独立性を保ちながら、庭を配置することでお互いに気配を感じることができる。玄関という特別な空間はなく、テラスからつながるタイルの床が動線の目印となっている。
施主とは材料に対しても打ち合わせを重ね、丁寧に選んでいった。なかでも敷き詰めたタイルは工場へ出向き、納得のいくものをオリジナルで焼き上げている。タイルは少しずつ色や質感の異なるものを使用しているが、大きく敷き詰めたときには豊かな表情となり、建物に温かみが生まれることとなった。（石川英樹）
A house that is integrated with the garden and has continuity between the inside and the outside
The house is built on a small hill slightly up the slope from the road. The building was designed with a focus on continuity. In other words, the interior of the building is connected to the next space by placing a garden between the rooms. It also expresses continuity by making the boundary between the outside and the inside ambiguous.
The large living room is integrated with the garden. However, a large space would be uncomfortable. Therefore, the eaves on the south side of the building are kept low and extended to solve this problem. The garden is placed in front of and behind the rooms that lead off the living room, creating a flow of wind and letting in light. As a result, we have created a pleasant space where we can always feel the greenery.
The structure is made of reinforced concrete for earthquake resistance, but the roof is made of steel to reduce the load on the structure and realize a large space.
In the plan, each space maintains its independence while the garden is placed so that people can feel each other’s presence. There is no special entrance to the house, but a tile floor leading from the terrace serves as a landmark for traffic flow.
We had many discussions with the client about each material and carefully selected them. In particular, we went to the factory to bake the tiles that we were satisfied with. The tiles are used in slightly different colors and textures, but when laid in large areas, they create a rich look and warmth to the building. (Hideki Ishikawa)
