Renovation of a private house for a generous time
We renovated a 70-year-old independent house in Atami, a hot spring resort, to create a space where people can feel time slowly in this place surrounded by plenty of nature. Japanese beauty is fundamentally based on a sense of unity with nature and the seasons. We left the pillars and beams untouched and took care to balance the old and new in the materials. Dismantled wood and driftwood were used for furniture and furnishings. The hinoki bath, with its ample space, is illuminated by the shifting light from the skylight, and at dusk, the tranquility of the night envelops it. Instead of seeking stimulation outside, we considered how to enrich the time spent inside the house and aimed to create a comfortable and relaxed beauty that accompanies the generous time of a hot spring resort.(Manabu Suzuki, Yumiko Yokoyama)
