古くから愛されているプリンスグランドリゾート軽井沢の中核となるウエストエリアに、それぞれの施設の機能整理・拡大を行い、「Nature Link-自然につながる、自然とつながる」をグランドコンセプトとし、オールシーズンリゾートの新しい空間が生まれた。かつてこの土地に根付いていた大きなクリの木を、各所にアートとして再利用をすることにより、今までこの木が見守って来た100年の記憶と次の未来へ繋がる空間としてゲストを迎え入れている。
南エントランスには、緩やかな形状の屋根と長野県産カラマツの軒天井、浅間石などを用いゲストを迎え入れ、軽井沢に到着した印象を強く与える。さらに光壁にて期待感を膨らませながら奥へと誘う工夫を施した。
MICE需要を受けバンケットロビーを新設することにより、スムーズにゲストを宴会場へ誘導し、既存棟の一部を改装しバンケットテラス〈KURUMI〉として新設されたテラスとつなぎ、既存樹と触れ合う多様性のあるラウンジとして存在感のある空間をつくり出した。
新たな宿泊棟は、既存棟と連結することによりサービスの効率化を図り、軽井沢の森に溶け込むようにデザインされた外観は、木立のように見える隔て壁でプライバシーを守り、バルコニーからは浅間山や軽井沢の森の眺望を楽しめるように配置した。
温泉棟は、もみじ山の眺望を独り占めでき、自然の中で楽しむ温泉は、旅で疲れた体も癒される。秋には見事な紅葉に包まれる露天風呂は、自然と一体感を味わえる空間になっている。（北村幸治、高野めぐみ、根岸大樹、五十川 栞）
Low-rise resort hotel using local materials and blending in with the surrounding forest
In the West Area, the core of the long-loved Prince Grand Resort Karuizawa, the functions of each facility have been reorganized and expanded to create a new space for an all-season resort under the grand concept of “Nature Link – Connect to Nature, Connect to Nature.” The large chestnut tree that once took root in the land has been reused as artwork throughout the resort, welcoming guests into a space that will connect them to the 100-year memory of the tree that has watched over them and to the future.
The south entrance welcomes guests with a gently sloping roof, a ceiling made of larch from Nagano Prefecture, and Asama stones, creating a strong impression that they have arrived in Karuizawa. A light wall was also designed to invite guests to the back of the building, building up a sense of anticipation.
In response to MICE demand, a banquet lobby was newly constructed to guide guests to the banquet halls smoothly. A portion of the existing building was renovated to create a banquet terrace “KURUMI” which was connected to the newly constructed terrace, creating a space with a sense of presence as a lounge with diversity in contact with the existing trees.
The new accommodation building is connected to the existing building to improve service efficiency. The exterior is designed to blend in with the Karuizawa forest, with a grove-like dividing wall to protect privacy and a balcony for enjoying views of Mount Asama and the Karuizawa forest.
The hot spring building offers a view of Mt. Momiji all to itself, and the hot spring baths enjoyed in nature will soothe even the weariest traveler’s body. The open-air baths, which are surrounded by magnificent autumn foliage in fall, provide a space where one can enjoy a sense of oneness with nature.
