1962年に開業した〈ホテルオークラ東京〉の本館再開発計画に伴い、新しく生まれ変わった〈The Okura Tokyo〉。今回のプロジェクトは、その歴史と精神を受け継ぎ、これからの50年に向けて世に問う新たなOkura Legacyの創造を目指した。
開業当時、弊社の創業者が建築設計を担当し、それから現在に至るまで数々のプロジェクトにおいて関わってきたこのホテルにおいて、今回も以下エリアのインテリア設計に携わっている。〈ホテルオークラ東京〉から受け継がれた美は各施設に継承、または再構築されて蘇ることになった。
〈中国料理 桃花林〉は、1962年開業時より多くのファンに親しまれている中国料理レストランである。ホテル創業時より幾多のリニューアルを経ながら継承された伝統意匠を受け継ぎつつ、店名のもととなる“桃源郷”をより特徴的に表現したインテリアデザインを実現した。桃源郷の優雅に咲き誇る桃花の林に見立てたダイニングホールと、その郷に建つ家屋をイメージして「ボタニカルガーデン」や「水景のテラス」など、それぞれ個性的なデザインテーマをもった個室を設けている。
〈鉄板焼 さざんか〉は最上階に位置する鉄板焼レストラン。こちらも多くのお客様に知られたレストランだが、素晴らしい眺望が加わり刷新された空間となった。眺望を十分に堪能できるようフードの高さや照明に気を配り計画し、多くの鉄板カウンターを窓面に配したレイアウトとしている。日本の「土と炎の美」をコンセプトに、陶板の美しい表情が引き立つカウンターやアートが空間を引き立てている。
同じく最上階にはスカイチャペルとバンケットを計画した。天空に浮かぶような純白のチャペルには現代工芸技術が可能にした精緻なガラスアートを象徴的に配している。イギリスの婚礼装束に由来する草花をモチーフに1枚1枚特注で製作し、やわらかで繊細な光が空間を満たした。天体の名が付けられた各バンケットは星々の煌めきをイメージしたアートやシャンデリアで彩られている。
7階のバンケットほか、ブライダル付帯施設では、他フロアとは異なり、フロア全体を英国調「マナーハウス」と見立て構成されている。かつてホテルオークラ本館が英国調スタイルを取り入れて日本のホテルにおけるインターナショナル化に柔軟に対応してきた歴史を踏まえ、現代化されたマナーハウスを体現し、オークラの洋を受け継いだデザインとしている。
最上級のホスピタリティを満たす「機能」と、ホテルブランドの目指すSimplicity and Eleganceという「美」を兼ね備えた空間をつくり上げるため、ホテル側と何度も議論を重ね、検討し、このプロジェクトの実現に繋げることができた。
この新しいデザインと受け継いだ美が融合し、これからの時代のホテル空間として、かつての〈ホテルオークラ東京〉のように末永く親しまれることを願う。（若本俊幸、石田昌子、根岸大樹、市川みきね）
Luxury hotel reborn with an interior that reconstructs the beauty since its establishment and realizes hospitality
[The Okura Tokyo] was reborn as part of the redevelopment plan for the “Hotel Okura Tokyo,” which opened in 1962. This project aimed to inherit the hotel’s history and spirit and create a new Okura Legacy for the next 50 years. The founder of our company was in charge of this hotel’s architectural design when it opened and has been involved in many projects since then. The beauty inherited from Hotel Okura Tokyo has been inherited or reconstructed and revived in each facility.
[Chinese Restaurant Toh-Ka-Lin] is a Chinese restaurant that has been well known by many fans since its opening in 1962. While inheriting the traditional design handed down through many renovations since the hotel’s establishment, we have created an interior design that expresses the “Peach Blossom Garden” of the restaurant’s name more distinctively. The dining hall is designed to resemble a peach grove in full bloom, and the private rooms have unique design themes, such as “Botanical Garden” and “Terrace with Water View,” based on the image of houses built in the township.
[Teppanyaki Sazanka] is a teppanyaki restaurant located on the top floor. This restaurant is also well known by many customers, but it has been renovated with a spectacular view. To fully enjoy the picture, the height of the hoods and the lighting were carefully planned, and many of the iron plate counters were placed in front of the windows. The restaurant concept is based on the Japanese “beauty of soil and fire,” and the counters and art that accentuate the beautiful expression of the ceramic plates enhance the space.
The sky chapel and banquet are also planned on the top floor. The pure white chapel, which seems to float in the sky, is symbolically decorated with exquisite glass art made possible by modern craft techniques. Each piece was custom-made with a motif of flowers and grasses derived from English wedding attire, filling the space with soft and delicate light. Each banquet, named after a celestial body, is decorated with art and chandeliers inspired by the stars’ twinkling.
Unlike the other floors, the banquet and other bridal facilities on the 7th floor are designed as if the entire floor were an English-style “manor house.” Based on the history of the Hotel Okura’s main building, which adopted the English style and flexibly responded to Japanese hotels’ internationalization, the design embodies a modernized manor house. It inherits the Western style of the Okura.
To create a space that combines the “function” of the highest level of hospitality with the “beauty” of simplicity and elegance, which is the hotel brand’s goal, we had many discussions and deliberations with the hotel, which led to the realization of this project.
