この建築は、夫婦と子供2人（といっても大学生以上）、それに祖父の大人5人のための住宅である。
家族ではありつつも、5人はそれぞれが独立した大人であり、自分のライフスタイルをもっている。これは、家長を元に家族内の立場が決まっていた頃の家族とは異なる、「家族全員がそれぞれ主体」という現代的な状況といえる。私たちはこうした構成の家族に対して、ハコである住宅にも、それにふさわしい空間が必要と考えた。
大人5人が快適に過ごせる居住空間をつくるにあたって私たちが考えたのは、立体的に展開するチューブ状の共用空間とその周りに配置した個室群だ。リビング・ダイニング・キッチンは、ひと繋がりの空間でありながらその中に散在し、まとまった1つの部屋になっていない。階段などの縦動線や玄関、和室や客間も、この立体チューブの中に組み込まれている。空間は、洞窟のような閉塞感を与えないため、住宅スケールを逸脱した、大きな開口部を設け、室内でありながら街と再接続してゆくような体験を生み出している。またこうした街路のような雰囲気をさらに高めるため、階段や造り付けの家具や照明は、それぞれが独立した構成要素として視覚的に目立つように設計・配置し、雑多さを強調した。
個室は各階に分散させ、それぞれの階に洗面やミニキッチン、トイレなどを配置し、フロアの中では個室同士が隣り合わないようにした。さらに、個室の入り口はホールやリビング・ダイニングからは直接見えない、プライバシーの高い状況をつくっている。それぞれの時間で生活をする大人たちが、互いにストレスなく過ごすことができるよう、共用空間と距離をとった個室群とした。
こうした構成をとることで、5人は全員が同じ場所に集まるだけでなく、さまざまな機能がばらまかれた共用部を中心に、個室まで含めた全体を思い思いに使いこなしながら暮らすことができる。この建築は家族が団欒する家であるとともに、5人の個人が暮らす街でもある。（成瀬友梨＋猪熊 純）
A three-story house like a town where a family lives in own wish
The house is a residence for five adults: a couple, two children (college age and older), and a grandfather. Although they are a family, each of the five is an independent adult with their own lifestyle. This is a modern situation in which each family member is a subject of their own, which is different from the family structure of the past when the position of the family members was determined by the patriarch. We thought that a house should have a space suitable for this type of family structure.
In order to create a comfortable living space for five adults, we designed a common tubular space that develops three-dimensionally, and a group of private rooms arranged around it. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are connected to each other but are scattered throughout the space and are not a single coherent room. Vertical flow lines such as stairs, the entrance, Japanese-style rooms, and guest rooms are also incorporated into this three-dimensional tube. In order to avoid giving the feeling of a cave, the space has large openings that deviate from the scale of the house, creating an experience of reconnection with the city even though it is an interior space. To further enhance the street-like atmosphere, the staircase, built-in furniture, and lighting were designed and arranged to stand out visually as independent components, emphasizing the sense of clutter.
The private rooms are distributed on each floor, with washrooms, mini-kitchens, and toilets located on each floor, so that the private rooms are not adjacent to each other within the floor. Furthermore, the entrances to the private rooms are not directly visible from the hall or the living/dining room, creating a situation of high privacy. The private rooms are separated from the common space so that adults, who live in their own time, can spend their time without stressing each other.
By adopting this structure, not only can all five members gather in the same place, but they can also live as they wish, using the entire space, including the private rooms, as they wish, centered on the common areas where various functions are scattered around them.
