埼玉県さいたま市に設計したご夫婦と小さな子供2人の家。当初、家族構成から3LDKの間取りを望まれていたが、建物が大きくなってしまい、必要としていた広さの庭が確保できないことや、予算的にも厳しい部分があったため、建物をコンパクトにしながらもご家族がのびのびと楽しく暮らしていける家を模索した。
ご家族はいつも子供たちと仲良く、楽しそうに過ごしていたため、わざわざ個室に分かれて生活するプランではなく、みんなが集う空間がよいと感じ、1階のLDKと2階のスタディスペースが吹抜けでつながる立体的なワンルームを提案した。それぞれの空間で過ごしていてもお互いの気配を感じられ、また床面積以上の開放感のある気持ちのいい空間をつくり出した。
唯一の個室である広い寝室は子どもの成長に合わせて家具で簡易に仕切ることを想定している。居室の内装はすべて自然素材で、床はスギ無垢材、壁は和紙、天井はベイマツの登り梁を使い、温かく優しい雰囲気になっている。全体のデザインやディテールはできるだけシンプルに仕上げることで、家族の暮らしや趣味・庭の緑や空の景色などが引き立つ、背景としての建築になることを意図した。
外構は大谷石＋草目地による舗装、多種の木による生垣、家庭菜園用スペースで構成されており、これからの植物の成長と菜園のつくり込みによって魅力を増していく楽しみな空間となっている。（田所裕樹）
A house made of natural materials that enhances life while growing
A house was designed in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, for a couple and their two small children. Initially, the couple wanted a 3LDK layout due to the family structure, but the building was too large, and they could not secure a yard of the size they needed. Also, the budget was tight, so we sought a house that would allow the family to live comfortably and happily while keeping the building compact.
The family always seemed to enjoy spending time together with their children, so we felt that it would be better to create a space where everyone could gather together rather than divide their lives into individual rooms. Therefore, we proposed a three-dimensional one-room house with the LDK on the first floor and the study space on the second floor connected by a stairwell. The LDK on the first floor and the study space on the second floor are connected by an atrium, creating a pleasant space with a sense of openness that is greater than the floor space.
The only private room, a large bedroom, is intended to be easily partitioned with the furniture as the children grow up. The interior of the living room is all made of natural materials: solid cedar for the floor, Japanese paper for the walls, and climbing beams of douglas fir for the ceiling, creating a warm and gentle atmosphere. The overall design and details were kept as simple as possible to make the architecture a backdrop that accentuates the family’s lifestyle, hobbies, and the greenery and skyline of the garden.
The exterior consists of Oya stone + grass pavement, hedges of various trees, and a space for a vegetable garden. It is a space that will become more attractive with the growth of plants and the creation of a vegetable garden. (Hiroki Tadokoro)
