本プロジェクトは新規開業の美容室である。施主の要望はセット面を半個室の空間にすることだった。
テナントは天井が高く、奥行きが長く、間口が狭いという、店舗が広く見えにくい圧迫感のある箱。
この箱に対し、天井までの壁で仕切ることで半個室をつくろうとすると、細長い空間にヒューマンスケールから逸脱した大きな壁が乱立し、ただでさえ圧迫感のある空間はより窮屈な印象になってしまう。
そこで、本設計では壁を躯体から切り離し、高さを抑えた一種のパーテションのように扱うこととした。
ただ、1枚の薄い壁を床に立てるだけでは構造的に不安定となる。自立する壁を構造的に安定化させる形態を考えた結果、「十字形」に壁を組む発想へ行き着いた。振れる方向に対して、振れ止めとなる袖壁を付け足すことで壁は自立し、その十字の形態と配置がこの店の空間構成の鍵となっている。
個室化を図ると空間が均一化し、ただ区切られただけの場となってしまうことが多いが、この十字壁の空間はそのさまざまな形態によって区切られ方、見え方が不均一となり、リズミカルなものとなる。
同じ高さの壁が直交してできた十字壁、異なる高さの壁が交わってできた十字壁、左右非対称の十字壁。それらの壁は偶発的に今のかたちを留めているようで、その動的なデザインが空間に変化を与えている。
この手法によって、本来テナントに付属する位置付けの壁が躯体から独立することで、間仕切り壁でありながら1つのオブジェクトとして成立し、自身の存在を自立するものにもなった。
シンプルな構成をとりつつも、動きもあるデザインによって半個室化による空間の均一化を回避し、新たな半個室のあり方を提示した。（林 優佑）
A head spa salon that creates movement in space with crisscrossed walls
This project is a newly opened beauty salon. The client’s request was to make the settee a semi-private space.
The tenant is a box with a high ceiling, long depth, and narrow frontage, which gives the store a feeling of oppression and makes it difficult to make it look spacious.
If one tries to create a semi-private room by dividing this box with a wall up to the ceiling, a large wall that deviates from the human scale will be placed randomly in the long and narrow space, and the space, which is already oppressive, will seem even more cramped.
Therefore, in this design, the walls are separated from the frame and treated as a kind of partition with a low height.
However, placing a single thin wall on the floor would be structurally unstable. Therefore, we considered a form that would structurally stabilize the freestanding wall and arrived at the “cross-shaped” wall. The cross-shaped form and arrangement of the wall are the key to the spatial composition of the salon.
While private rooms often result in a homogenized space that is merely divided, this cross-walled space is rhythmic, with various forms that create a non-uniformity of division and visibility.
Cross-walls are made of walls of the same height orthogonally, cross-walls made of walls of different heights intersecting each other, and asymmetrical cross-walls. These walls seem to have accidentally retained their current shape, and their dynamic design gives the space a sense of change.
This technique allows the walls, which were originally intended to be attached to the tenants, to become independent from the structure, and thus. However, they are partition walls. They are established as a single object that can stand on its own.
The simple yet dynamic design avoids the homogenization of the space by making it semi-private and presents a new way of semi-private space. (Yusuke Hayashi)
